Senior John Kay Named Colonial League Player of the Year

2014 Jay Grant John Kay 2During his terrific football season this fall, John Kay ’15 (Hingham, MA)  helped lead the Williston Northampton Wildcats to its first NEPSAC Championship Bowl since 2002. His excellence on the field was recognized this week when he was named the Colonial League Player of the Year as a lineman, as well as the NEPSAC Class B Defensive Player of the Year.

Mr. Kay also earned All New England prep honors and made First Team All Colonial League. The accolades  were the culmination of a tremendous season for Mr. Kay as a student-athlete at Williston. He was a two-way player at center and middle linebacker who rarely came off the field.

“This is a huge honor and well deserved,” said Athletic Director Mark Conroy, who also coaches the varsity football team. ” We are all extremely proud of John.  It has been a tremendous privilege coaching John this year and I couldn’t be happier for him.”

2014 Jay Grant John KayOffensively, Mr. Kay spearheaded an offensive line that helped the Wildcats average 6.9 yards per carry and 480 yards of offense per game. Defensively, over nine games, he had 112 tackles, 19 tackles for loss, four blocked PATs, three forced fumbles, two interceptions, and two fumble recoveries.

In addition to his football accomplishments, Mr. Kay earned high honors for his outstanding work in the classroom. Students named to the high honors list must have an average of 92 or above for the trimester. He also is an active member of both the Williston Film Club and the Caterwaulers, the school’s boys concert choir.

“John had a tremendous season for us,” Mr. Conroy said.  “As a competitor, he brings a unique combination of passion, intensity, and hard-nosed play. He is also a wonderfully positive teammate and a great role model for our younger boys.”
