Danielle Grant ’16 and Haley Beecher ’18

The newly-formed doubles partnership of Danielle Grant and Haley Beecher paid off for the Girls’ Varsity Tennis team this past Saturday, as the duo went undefeated and won their flight at the Suffield Tournament. After sweeping past their first three matches over Pomfret (8-3), Suffield (8-1), and Marianapolis (8-0), Danielle and Haley handily defeated the The Gunnery in the finals, 6-1, 6-1.  Both girls were last-minute additions to the doubles team before the tournament, and the points they collected helped the Wildcats edge Gunnery by one point to win the overall tournament crown for the team.

Ryan Jeon ’16

This weekend, at the NEPSUL tournament, Ryan played his best Ultimate of the year for the Wildcats. In two games, Ryan was involved in many key defensive situations that helped to turn the tide of the point in Williston’s favor. Additionally, Ryan showed off his impressive throwing with a few deep passes and two thrown for scores on the day. He showed great commitment to his team and was always playing his hardest.

Morgan Fisher helped clinch the championship.

Morgan Fisher ’16

Morgan stepped up with tremendous leadership behind the plate last week against Stoneleigh Burnham and Taft for the Varsity Softball Team. Throughout the season, Morgan has called all pitches for sophomore Jordan Strum, and they have become a dynamic duo. Morgan had three diving catches to end key innings on defense against Westminster. On Sunday, she went 1 for 3, with a run scored and an RBI in the team’s 5-1 win over Westminster. Morgan was key in the Western New England championship season for the Wildcats.

sekar
Vishnu Sekar helped turn the tide to victory.

Vishnu Sekar ’19

Vishnu has had a great season for the Boys’ Varsity Tennis team this season. Against an evenly matched Worcester Academy squad, Vishnu stepped into the role of # 6 singles due to a player injury. Despite losing the first set 3-6, Vishnu stayed patient, made adjustments to his game, and his determination and good attitude were evident as he turned his match around for the win 3-6, 6-0, 10-4. This proved to be a critical point in the Wildcat’s eventual 5-4 victory.

Katie Most ’18

Katie has been strong contributor to the Girls JV Tennis team’s success this season. She played a gutsy singles match at the #3 singles spot in the team’s match against a very athletic and experienced Berkshire team last week. She came back from being down 3-6 to win 8-6 and secure the Wildcats 4-3 victory. Katie’s play has improved all season, and in this match she played with poise and remarkable consistency. She pushed her opponent far back behind the baseline with her deep topspin returns and grew more confident and steady as the match went along, ultimately outlasting her opponent.

Luke Po ’20

Luke has played well for the Boys JV Tennis team this season. Coming back from illness, and with a shorthanded team on Saturday at Pomfret, Luke teamed up with fellow middle schooler David Greenbaum ’21 to pull off an 8-6 victory at number-one doubles. Luke followed this up with a dramatic 8-7 victory at number-one singles, winning in a tie-breaker. Luke has brought a positive attitude to practice all year, helping create the positive team atmosphere.
