Athletes of The Week

 

David Fitch ’17 – Varsity Boys Water Polo

David has had a great start to the season for the boys varsity water polo team this fall. This past week he led the team at both ends of the pool. On Saturday, against Suffield Academy, David scored 5 goals and racked up 4 assists on the offensive end of the pool. Defensively, he added 4 steals and 3 field blocks. David has shown great leadership in and out of the pool it is clear he takes pride in aiding the development of the younger players on the squad. David will continue to be a big part of the Wildcats success this season.

 

Lindsay Whipple ’17 – Varsity Field Hockey

Lindsay, playing the thankless position of right back, had an outstanding week for the Wildcats varsity field hockey team.  She continues to be one of our more consistent, dependable players, but she has recently started working more creatively with those around her to set up transition plays around the field leading to numerous scoring opportunities for her teammates.  As a leader of the defensive squad, she has helped to create a reliable and cohesive unit and is playing a big role in the team’s success this season. Lindsay’s leadership by example and hard work are contagious!

 

Mason Balch ‘18 – Varsity Football

Mason had a fantastic performance on Saturday for the varsity football team against Avon Old Farms. In his first game since coming back from injury, Mason recorded 17 tackles including 8 solo tackles. He not only played an outstanding game on defense, but he was also a dominating force on special teams and caught 2 passes for 10 yards on offense. Mason added a level of toughness and determination that helped to lift his team in a time of need. Mason will continue to be a big part of the Wildcats success this season.

 

Sophie Weed ’18 – Girls Varsity Soccer

Sophie has been a big part of the varsity girls soccer team so far this season. She played big for the Wildcats at center mid on Saturday helping the Wildcats earn the 1-0 victory against Berkshire.  She had the assist on the winning goal with 4 minutes to go in the game by sending a beautiful corner kick into the box.  She played well on both ends of the field and has been a key player for the Wildcats. Sophie’s hard work and leadership have been an inspiration to the rest of the players on the squad.

 

Eric Albanese ’20 – Boys JVA soccer

Eric has had a strong start to the season for the boys JVA soccer team. He sacrificed his body for the sake of our victory against Millbrook on Saturday, as he played with a sprained wrist. This did not stop Eric’s determined and passionate team play. His play was infectious for the rest of the squad and it helped drive the Wildcats to a 2-0 victory at Millbrook.

 

Alexis Parker ’19 – Girls JV Volleyball

Alexis has been a strong force in the front row for the girls JV volleyball team so far this fall.  She has shown great growth in knowledge and skill for the position.  In our games this week she averaged 3 blocks and 3 hits a game against both Deerfield and Berkshire. She is getting better every week and is always trying to learn new things that will help her become better in all aspects of the game. Alexis’s work ethic provides a positive example for everyone on the team.

 

Ethan Huang ‘20 – Boys JV B Soccer

As a new player to soccer, Ethan has excelled in his improvement for the boys JV B soccer team this season. He works hard every practice and is now a very important contributing player on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball, both making and breaking up plays for the Wildcats. Ethan leads by setting a great example for both the younger and older players on the team.

 

Lydia Pollard ’18 – Girls JV Soccer

Lydia helped anchor the Williston defense to earn the shutout against Berkshire School in girls JV soccer’s 3-0 win on Saturday afternoon. Key to her contributions was her willingness to clear the ball with numerous, perfectly executed headers. She also added a lovely assist on a low cross in a great team goal to help seal the win. Lydia has been a versatile player all season long, playing in three different positions. She has proven to have a team first mentality and has provided a great example for the younger teammates on the squad.
