Athletes of the Week

David Fitch ’17 – Boys Varsity Swimming

dave

David has been a great leader for the boys varsity swim team for the past 2 seasons.   This season he has continued to provide great times for the team all season. On Saturday he broke a 17 year old school record in the 200 free and a 32 year old school record in the 500 free.  He is undefeated in individual races this year and has won many points for the Wildcats. In addition, he also set 2 new Kent pool records in those events.  David has worked tremendously hard in the weight room and in the pool during the offseason and it has clearly paid off.  His efforts have sparked a fire in his teammates as it is a great example of what it takes to be successful come meet day.

Danielle Marquez ’18 – Girls Varsity Hockey

danielle

Danielle has played very well in net for the girls varsity hockey team this season. Her outstanding play continued on Wednesday where she played a perfect period against Winchendon and got the win for the Wildcats with a score of 6-1.  On Saturday in the team’s 2-2 tie against Kent, she made 37 outstanding saves including a breakaway with just minutes to go in the second period.  Danielle leads by example as she comes to practice every day with a keen focus and strong work ethic determined to make improvements in her play. Danielle has been a big part of the team’s ability to only allow only 19 goals in 14 games thus far this season.

Sarah Sullivan ’19 – Girls Varsity Basketball

sarah

Sarah has been an asset to the girls varsity basketball all season. On Wednesday, Sarah continued her strong play as she had 5 points and 8 rebounds in a close game against Deerfield. On Saturday, Sarah had one of her best performances thus far as she tallied 17 points, 2 assists, and 6 rebounds in a decisive victory over Hotchkiss. Sarah is a force on the floor and can be counted on in tough situations. She has a great work ethic and always exemplifies a positive attitude and great sportsmanship.

Bane Terzic ’17 – Boys Varsity Basketball

bane

Bane has played a key role in the varsity boys basketball’s recent winning streak.  Bane’s exceptional athleticism and skill level are a huge asset to the team on both the offensive and defensive ends of the floor. In this past Saturday’s big win over a talented Avon Old Farms team, Bane had an outstanding game particularly in the second half.  Defensively, his commitment to being a great defender makes him a disruptive force.  Time and time again his length and tenacity made it difficult for Avon to score.   Offensively, Bane’s 10 point second half included two timely threes helped secure the win for the Wildcats!

Sydney Joyce ’19 – Girls Varsity Swimming

sydney joyce

Sydney has been a force in the pool for the girls varsity swim team this season. On Saturday she continued her dominance as she set a school record in the 200 IM and broke a Kent Pool Record that has stood for 12 years.  Sydney has only lost one individual race this year and has helped pace the team to an incredible start to the season! Her hard work in and out of the pool provides a fantastic example for everyone on the team.

Jackson Frechette ’22- Coed Thirds Squash

jackson

Although it is Jackson’s first season on the squash court, he has exhibited both exemplary drive and sportsmanship during the team’s matches. Jackson takes advantage of each practice to hone his serves and returns, and he is eager to develop advanced techniques that will help him outthink and outplay his opponent.  Jackson dominated his first match against Bement with a scores of 11-5, 11-2, and 11-8.  It is clear that Jackson will continue to be a valuable part of the Wildcats squash team for years to come.

Chloe Lee ’17- Girls JV Squash

chole

Chloe has had a great season for the JV squash team. As one of the JV squash captains, Chloe has taken on a great leadership role for the squad.  This last week, we played Suffield and Chloe demonstrated great determination and sportsmanship in her 5 games to win her match to add to the 3-4 final score.  Between each game she listened to her teammates and coach for feedback and applied it to her game. She’s a great example to her teammates of how to play strong mentally and physically without giving up.

Andrew Andrew ’18 – JV Wrestling

andrew

Andrew has been a committed member of the JV wrestling team for the last two seasons. Last year, knowing that he would most likely not see the mat in real competition, he was one of the team’s hardest workers. Andrew has continued that effort and determination in his pursuit of getting on the mat this year. This weekend Andrew did just that. He stepped on the mat at Loomis and won his first two contests by pin and had a long and hard match in his championship round.  Andrew always encourages his teammates to be their best in both attitude and performance. His energy at practice is infectious and is a valuable part of the team.

Nick Barber ’19 – Boys Thirds Basketball

nick

Nick continues to get it done on both ends of the court for the thirds basketball team. He is not only one of the team’s leading scorers, but he also is one of the best defenders on the squad. Nick provides a positive example as he is a very hard worker and, more importantly, he demonstrates sportsmanship in all of his actions.
