Athletes of the Week

Mike Manley ’18- Boys Varsity Basketball

Mike had a terrific game on Saturday, leading varsity boys’ basketball to a gritty 64-59 season opening victory at Noble and Greenough. Mike demonstrated great poise and competitiveness in making a number of big plays at critical junctures of the game.   He led a balanced scoring attack with 13 points while also doing a terrific job of defending Noble’s high scoring point guard. Varsity boys basketball will continue to look to Mike as one of its team leaders this winter.

Marielle McHale ’18 – Girls Varsity Hockey

Marielle is a returning four year senior, who chipped in two goals on Saturday vs. Millbrook.  Her first goal was a great shot from the right dot that beat the goalie cleanly to make it 6-0.  Her second goal came three minutes later, when she took a great angle to get the puck back from Millbrook.  She went in alone on the goalie and made a great move to make it 7-0. Marielle’s passion for the game and work ethic are tremendous. Last season she emerged as a leader of the Wildcats on and off the ice. The team will look to her as a team leader for the rest of the season.

William Gunn ’20 – Varsity Wrestling

Will had a great start to the season for the Wildcats in the team’s opener on Saturday.  He won both matches by coming from behind and securing a victory late in the match.  He used a lot of endurance gained through hard work to defeat more experienced foes.  His work ethic, positive attitude, and impeccable sportsmanship are always on display, but it was his determination and perseverance that shined most brightly on Saturday. The Wildcats will continue to look to Will for inspiration this season!

Ruby McElhone Yates ’21 – Girls JV Squash

As co-captain, Ruby played with strength and determination last Saturday against Hopkins. In her individual match, she showed incredible grit with her plays and strokes, never backing down from a point. She played all five games to win her match overall.  Ruby consistently provides dependable leadership on and off the court and always supports her teammates to be the best players they can be!
