Athletes of the Week – Oct. 24th

In her first year of playing goalie, Laura has played a key role in many close games this season including an overtime win over Westminster and a 5-1 victory over Pomfret last weekend. Laura brings a positive attitude and energetic spirit to practice every day setting a good example for her teammates.

A captain of the boys Cross Country team, Adam finished in first place at the team’s dual meet with Taft on Saturday. Adam ran a personal best by 47 seconds as he won the first race of his career. His time moved him up to 8th place on the Williston Honor Roll. Adam has been an outstanding leader for the team all year.

 

 

Calvin Frye ‘16
Calvin Frye has made quite the splash in his first year of playing water polo for the boys jv team.  He has been a primary contributor for the boys JV water polo team in both the offensive and defensive ends of the pool. Coach Feinstein looks forward to watching Calvin excel as he gains experience as a water polo player.

Athletes of the Week – Oct. 17th

In Saturday’s meet against Avon Andy finished first for Williston and second overall with a time of 17:26. That time moves him up to 8th place on the honor roll of best Williston times on our course. Andy is a fierce competitor and has been a team leader all season.

Caitlin Riley ‘12
A captain of the girls’ varsity soccer team, Caitlin as led the defense effort for the Wildcats as they have jumped out to a 5-1-3 early season record. Last week with Caitlin at stopper the team recorded shutout wins over both Cushing and Westminster. Caitlin has been an excellent leader both on and off the field for this young team.

Matt Cullen ‘15
Matt has been a steady player from his sweeper position for the boys third soccer team. He is always well positioned and reads the game very well. In the team’s most recent game he scored the game-tying goal with just five minutes left in the contest.

Athletes of the Week – Oct. 10th

A captain of the varsity field hockey team, Bridget continues to provide strong leadership both on and off the field. Her offensive play has helped the team get off to an impressive 5-1 start to the season. Last week Bridget scored six goals and one assist in the team’s victories over Kent and Berkshire.

Pierre has anchored the boys’ varsity soccer team’s back line leading to four shutouts in their first six games as they have posted a 5-1 record. On Saturday Pierre also converted a penalty kick to give the team a 1-0 lead in the Wildcat’s eventual 2-0 win over visiting Millbrook.

Jenna Phelan ‘15
Jenna helped lead the girls’ jv soccer team to their first shutout victory of the season on Saturday as the team edged Berkshire 1-0. Playing half the game in net and half the game at forward, Jenna was a force on both the offensive and defensive ends of the field. She helped create much of the offensive pressure that led to the game-winning goal late in the match against the Bears.

Athletes of the Week – Oct. 3rd

Devon is enjoying an excellent season for the girls cross country team. She has finished either first or second in each of her races this season, including invitationals. Last week she finished second of 126 runners at the Richard Miller Invitational at Westminster School. Her time of 20:46 was 50 seconds faster than her race on the same course last year. Coach Tuleja has been extremely impressed with Devon’s efforts and looks forward to the continuation of her success.

Chris is off to a great start to the season for the varsity football team. Last week he led team in tackles in their 19-0 win over Canterbury. During that game he also had third interception in two games and scored a decisive touchdown late in the game on a terrific catch. Coach Conroy says that Chris brings a great work ethic and toughness to the team on a consistent basis.

Maggie Dewey ’13
Maggie has shown exemplary leadership as captain of the jv volleyball team in practices and games.  She is pacing the offense this year hitting over 95% of her serves in, and scoring over 30 points on her serve alone the past two games .  Her strong game and steady influence is allowing the young jv squad time to mature while experiencing success at the same time.

Williston and Gunnery Compete For Miller Cup

DSC 0283millercupThe Williston and Gunnery football teams will renew their rivalry on Saturday October 8th at 7:00pm on Sawyer Field as they battle for the Ogden Miller Cup. This year’s game will be the 33rd overall in the series and the 27th played for the cup. Williston leads the overall series 17-15, though the battle for the cup is tied at 13 wins each.

Athletes of the Week – Sept. 26th

jenkinsTommy Jenkins ‘12
Tommy is a tough, dependable player for the varsity football team. He had an outstanding game in the team’s season opening 20-6 win over Westminster. On the defensive side of the ball Tommy had 11 tackles, 3 sacks, and 2 interceptions. On offense he caught two passes for 75 yards and a touchdown.

A senior captain for the varsity field hockey team, Sarah is off to a great start to the season. In the team’s first two games Sarah made many key passes feeding the ball to the forward line from her midfield position. She also scored 4 goals and had 2 assists. Coach Pickrell has been impressed with Sarah’s positive attitude and leadership with her teammates.

 

Taiga Hashimoto ‘15
Taiga was an offensive threat all game long with both his passing and shooting as the boys third soccer team defeated Deerfield 4-0.  Taiga scored two goals in the team’s season opening victory.

Athletes of the Week – Sept. 19th

In her first game in goal for the Wildcats, Ellie was outstanding in the girls varsity soccer team’s season opener against Worcester Academy. Ellie had 11 saves in the match including one game-changing save off a header. Her stellar play helped Williston emerge with a 1-1 tie against a very strong opponent. Coach Davey has been impressed with her tenacious play and leadership on the field.

Dan is off to a great start for the boys’ varsity water polo team. On Saturday he scored six goals in the team’s two games against Choate and Brunswick. Dan always has a positive attitude and works hard each day at improving his game.

Spring Athletic Awards Presented

The spring season athletic awards assembly was held on Monday May 30, 2011. The Athletic Department presented the Blanket Award for participation followed by the George Denman Award and the Alumnae Award, which are presented to a senior boy and girl. In addition the award winners for individual sports were announced.

Athletes of the Week – May 16th

Bridget has enjoyed an outstanding season for the girls’ varsity lacrosse team.  She leads the team in scoring and is also a strong defensive player. Bridget has averaged 7 goals a game in the team’s recent wins over Choate, Deerfield, NMH and Pomfret. Bridget is always working hard to improve her game and is a leader both on and off the field.

Luke had some outstanding performances for the track & field team last week. In a close meet against Westminster he placed in the long jump, 200m and high jump where he had a person best of 5’8”. He was also a member of the winning 4x100m relay team. On Saturday he led the team in points placing in the 100m, high jump, long jump and 4x100m relay. Luke works hard at every practice and meet and is a leader by example.

Matt Steinberg ‘15
Matt Steinberg joined crew for the first time this season and has become a key coxswain for the novice boat of eight boys.  Coxswains have to direct the rowers and lead the boat. Matt shows a real talent for the sport and has been a real leader of his boat.

Cam LaMotte ‘14
Cam has put a lot of effort into improving his game and is the only freshman who has qualified to play in jv golf matches this season. Last Thursday Cam scored the first hole in one ever for the jv golf team in a practice round.
