Ole Setsaas ’12 Writes from the U20 World Championship

Ole ThomasGranerodphotoSenior Ole Setsaas was chosen to play on the Norwegian National U20 team this winter. In between practices, games, travel, and yes, homework, Ole is managing to find time to write to the Williston Northampton community while competing in this international tournament.

Athletes of the Week – Nov. 7th

Christie stepped into a starting role on defense in games against Deerfield and NMH last week for the varsity field hockey team. Her solid play was a key to the team’s 2-0 win at Deerfield. Against NMH Christie contained their leading scorer and helped the Wildcats finish the regular season on a high note.

Jon played a tremendous game both offensively and defensively in the varsity football team’ win over St. Thomas More. John’s solid blocking helped the team average 10 yards per carry. On defense he had six tackles and two quarterback sacks. John has been a consistent, hard-nosed player all season long.

 

 

Taylor Cheria ‘15
Taylor had a goal and an assist for the girls jv soccer team in their season ending 2-1 win against Northfield Mt. Hermon, to help the team finish on a positive note.
Taylor’s tenacious play has contributed to her success as one of the team’s most consistent offensive threats all season long.

Runners Excel, Field Hockey & Soccer Lose in Semifinals

describe the imageOn Saturday at the NEPSTA Cross Country All-Star Meet both Williston runners had outstanding races. In the girls race Devon Greenwood ’13 finished 10th of 51 runners with a time of 19:54 on the 5K course. On the boys side Andy Pierce ’13 ran a time of 17:18, which placed him 12th in the field of 42 runners. Continue reading

Field Hockey, Boys Soccer Advance

Williston’s field hockey and boys soccer teams advanced to the semi-finals in NEPSAC tournaments, while the girls soccer lost a hard-fought 1-0 decision to the Groton School in a quarterfinal game.

describe the imageField hockey scored a thrilling 2-1 overtime victory over visiting Miss Porter’s School. Porters took a 1-0 lead just 10 minutes into the game and held Williston scoreless until the Wildcats broke through with 17 minutes remaining on a goal by senior Jill Dahrooge (assist to Bridget Instrum ’12). Williston had a host of chances late in regulation but could not beat Christen Safko, the Porter’s keeper. Just two minutes into overtime, Bridget Instrum scored the game winner on a hard shot from the left side of the goal. Williston will play 2nd seeded Middlesex, who beat BB&N 4-1. The game will be played at Phillips Andover at 2:00pm on Saturday.

Tournament Teams Announced

Three Williston teams have qualified for post-season play in NEPSAC tournaments. Quarterfinal round games will be played on Wednesday afternoon. Field Hockey (12-3) is seeded third and will host Miss Porter’s (9-4-1) at 2:15pm. Boys Soccer (8-3-3) is seeded seventh and will travel to Dedham, MA to play second seeded Noble & Greenough (13-2-1) at 2:00pm. Girls Soccer (6-4-4) is seeded sixth and will travel to Groton, MA to play the Groton School (9-5-1) at 2:00pm.

In addition, two Williston cross country runners will be competing at the NEPSTA Cross Country All-Star Meet on Saturday at St. Mark’s School. The race includes the top twenty finishers from each division of the New England’s held this past Saturday. Representing Williston will be Devon Greenwood, who finished 10th in the girls race and Andy Pierce, who finished 15th in the boys race on Saturday. Continue reading

Athletes of the Week – Oct. 31st

Mark scored the game’s only goal on Saturday as the boys’ varsity soccer team defeated Deerfield 1-0 on the road.  Mark deftly created room for himself against two defenders and placed the ball into the far corner of the net giving Williston the win. Mark leads the team with 14 goals on the season, but none was timelier than the goal on Saturday.

Amanda has been a consistent contributor for the girls varsity soccer team holding down the defensive line as sweeper. Amanda comes to every game and every practice with a positive attitude, competitive drive, and will to win. Her tenacity and relentless play has helped the Wildcats in their 2-0 victories over Hotchkiss, Westminster, and Suffield.

Mike Lloyd ‘16
Mike has been playing in different positions during the season, but has excelled while playing forward.  Mike has scored three goals in both of the team’s recent wins over Bement and Wilbraham & Monson. Mike brings a positive attitude to practice each day and provides strong leadership to the team.

Athletes of the Week – Oct. 24th

In her first year of playing goalie, Laura has played a key role in many close games this season including an overtime win over Westminster and a 5-1 victory over Pomfret last weekend. Laura brings a positive attitude and energetic spirit to practice every day setting a good example for her teammates.

A captain of the boys Cross Country team, Adam finished in first place at the team’s dual meet with Taft on Saturday. Adam ran a personal best by 47 seconds as he won the first race of his career. His time moved him up to 8th place on the Williston Honor Roll. Adam has been an outstanding leader for the team all year.

 

 

Calvin Frye ‘16
Calvin Frye has made quite the splash in his first year of playing water polo for the boys jv team.  He has been a primary contributor for the boys JV water polo team in both the offensive and defensive ends of the pool. Coach Feinstein looks forward to watching Calvin excel as he gains experience as a water polo player.

Athletes of the Week – Oct. 17th

In Saturday’s meet against Avon Andy finished first for Williston and second overall with a time of 17:26. That time moves him up to 8th place on the honor roll of best Williston times on our course. Andy is a fierce competitor and has been a team leader all season.

Caitlin Riley ‘12
A captain of the girls’ varsity soccer team, Caitlin as led the defense effort for the Wildcats as they have jumped out to a 5-1-3 early season record. Last week with Caitlin at stopper the team recorded shutout wins over both Cushing and Westminster. Caitlin has been an excellent leader both on and off the field for this young team.

Matt Cullen ‘15
Matt has been a steady player from his sweeper position for the boys third soccer team. He is always well positioned and reads the game very well. In the team’s most recent game he scored the game-tying goal with just five minutes left in the contest.
