During exam week, we all have our own ways of staying sane and feeling like we just might have a chance at surviving those dreadful days. I’m not a much of a superstitious person, but when I’m told that 25 percent of my grade rests on a single test, anything I can do to boost my confidence is worth it. I’m happy to forget about reality if it works.
I’ve seen people kissing their crucifix necklaces, listening to their favorite songs one last time before pencil goes on paper, and in my case, flipping an ancient coin from 1887 my grandfather gave me—and convincing myself that since it landed on heads, I would ace my chemistry exam.
