1st Meeting 15-16!

The first Math Team meeting of the year was a huge success with 26 students in attendance from all grade levels. We worked on practice problems, talked about the year, and planned out our off-campus excursions. Anyone at any level of math is encouraged to join the team on green Tuesdays from 2:45 to 3:30 in Schoolhouse 25.

Our first competition of the year, the NEML #1, will occur on Tuesday, 10/20 from 2:35 to 3:30 in Schoolhouse 25. The competition lasts 30 minutes and you can use a calculator. You can begin any time between 2:35 and 3:05.

History Update

I recently received from really wonderful information regarding the history of the Williston Math Team from Kathy Connors, class of 1990!

My mother Dr. Mary Ann Connors, who served on the Williston mathematics faculty from 1981-1990, and longtime mathematics faculty member and former department chair Jack Cody co-founded the Williston Northampton School Math Team in 1982. Mrs. Connors and Mr. Cody served as co-advisers of the Math Team in that era.

The WNS Math team participated in meets at host schools with private and public schools in Western Massachusetts (The “Mathletes” – Western Massachusetts Mathematics League “WWML”). During the same time period the WNS Math Team also participated in the New England Mathematics League (NEML) contests.

WNS hosted a WWML meet in April 1988.
