Katherine Phinney Martin ’48

Katherine Frances Phinney Martin ’48 died April 27, 2013, surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Martin was born December 30, 1934, in Westchester, New York, to the late Andrew Donald and Ruth (Boyle) Ewald. She graduated from the Beaumont School for Girls in Cleveland and attended Ursiline College.

She was a loving wife and mother who enjoyed bowling, sewing, and antiquing. A resident of Carmel for 20 years and prior to her husband’s retirement, she was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels and a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church. More recently, she was a member of Transfiguration of Jesus Catholic Church in Wallace, North Carolina.

Above all, Mrs. Martin was extremely devoted to her family and will be remembered fondly by her loved ones. Survivors include her husband, Samuel J. Martin, to whom she was united in marriage December 29, 1956; daughters, Kathryn McMurray (James) of Brighton, Michigan, Julie Marie Hamilton of Annapolis, Maryland, Ann Martin-Myers (Paul) of Martinsville, and Lisa Kosanke (Kevin) of Indianapolis; sister, Mary Ann VanAuken (Robert) of Hilton Head Island; granddaughters, Kristin McMurray, Megan Hautamaki, Kaitlin McMurray, Sarah Hamilton, and Lauren Hamilton.
