Andrew was born in Bernardsville, N.J., graduated from Parsons College in Iowa, and lived in Montclair, N.J.; New Canaan; Duxbury, Mass.; and St. Croix.

Andrew was a proud member of the military, serving briefly in the U.S. Marine Corps, then later from 1969-71 in the U.S. Army.

Andrew Rowley was a soft-spoken, modest man, who brought excellence and leadership to everything he did. He was a standard bearer of professionalism in business, a husband and father who loved his family with unwavering devotion and a generous citizen whose spirit of service touched many lives.

As a young man, Andrew was attracted to the world of finance. He began his career at W.H. Morton and subsequently worked at Lazard Freres and Solomon Brothers. His expertise caught the eye of Morgan Stanley, where he became a founding member of the Municipal Securities Division and Head of Municipal Syndicate. He served with distinction from 1987-96, and was then named head of public finance, a role he maintained until retirement in 2001. During his years at Morgan Stanley, he also served on the Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board. In his final years, he came out of retirement as a financial advisor to the YUBA Group, helping direct underwriting and financing for public and private universities.

Andrew’s interests in life were broad, and it was particularly important to him to give back. He and Andrea have been supporters of needy children through the Lutheran Social Services of the Virgin Islands. He offered his time and talents to the World Ocean School, a non-profit organization, improving the lives of children by giving them life skills learned through teamwork. He also served on the board of directors for Kents Hill School in Maine.

Andrew Rowley was a man of exceptional gifts and a deeply generous heart. He was equally skilled directing multi-million dollar financings, as he was bringing simple beauty into the world, whether it be his award-winning Hibiscus, the hand-laid brick wedding walk built for his daughter Alix’s wedding, or his magnificent culinary creations. He was a great man and a good man.
