Richard O’Brien ’56

Richard O'brienRichard J. O’Brien, 77, of Northampton, devoted son and uncle, passed peacefully Thursday, April 7, 2016, at the Palmer House, Palmer, with his niece Tara (his god-daughter) and close family and friends by his side.

Son of the late Cornelius and Kathryn (Croke) O’Brien, Richard graduated from Chicopee High School in 1955, then attended Williston Academy for a postgraduate year. He was proudly a College of the Holy Cross Crusader, class of 1960.

A natural educator, he taught social studies in the Chicopee school system upon his graduation. Both his identical twin, William, and Richard were very gifted athletes, as highlighted recently with their induction into the Chicopee High School Hall of Fame. No small feat, Richard was also the starting quarterback as an underclassman for the heyday of College of the Holy Cross Football until a game injury left him permanently on the sidelines.

Michael Bernique ’61

BerniqueMichael R. Bernique, 72, passed peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, March 18th at 3:06 AM at UCSD Thornton Hospital in La Jolla CA.

Michael was born on December 26, 1943 in Fall River, MA the only child of Therese and George Bernique. Michael spent some of his early years in New Bedford, MA with his grandparents Elise and Lucien Bernique. Because of this, his first language was French and a life-long love of France and all things French ensued. Michael lived in a number of cities during his childhood including Karlsruhe, Germany, and Washington D.C. After attending several prep schools, in June 1961, he graduated from Williston Academy (now Williston Northampton School).

Jean Lyndon Lathrop ’62

LatrhopJean Lyndon Lathrop, 71, of Plainfield, died unexpectedly on Thursday, August 27, 2015, at her beloved home, which was a part of the New Hamburger Community.

She was born on September 4, 1943, in Massachusetts, the daughter of the late Roger Lyndon, the noted mathematician, and Barbara Whitmer. She was raised in Unity, New Hampshire, by her mother, the late Barbara (Whitmer) Clark and the late Alan “Buddy” Clark.

She received her B.A. and an M.A. in American women’s history from Goddard College. She then taught for many years in a Goddard College undergraduate program for low-income adults.

August “Ted” Lindquist ’51

LindquistA.T. “Ted” Lindquist, Jr., 84, of Farmington, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 24th, surrounded by his loving family at The Residence at Brookside in Avon, CT.

He was the widower of Audrey Arnold Lindquist. Born in New Britain, CT on October 5, 1931, Ted was the son of the late A.T. Lindquist, Sr., and Marion Viall Lindquist.

He graduated from New Britain High School in 1949 and attended Williston Academy of Easthampton, MA before entering Bates College in 1951.

Anita Botwinik Abrams ’42

BotwinikAnita (Botwinik) Abrams, 91, of Woodbridge, CT & formerly of Boynton Beach, FL., died on Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2015.

Born in New Haven, CT., May 6, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Henrietta (Silverstein) Botwinik.

Anita was a 1942 graduate of Northhampton School for Girls and attended Goucher College.

A Past-President of the West End Chapter of ORT in New Haven and Chairwoman of the Young Married Division of the UJA, Anita was one of the Founders of the Gan Hayeled Nursery School of Cong. B’nai Jacob, then located on George St. in New Haven, CT. She collaborated with Jean Bell on a Ladies golf line which was built-up to become a national named brand and sold in most golf shops. Anita was an original member of the Woodbridge Country Club, was it’s women’s golf champion on three different occasions, and was a Chairwoman of the Women’s Golf Association.

Anita resided at Hunter’s Run in Boynton Beach, FL for almost 30 years and served on many committees and was a member of it’s Board of Governors. She was an avid card player, a voracious reader, and loved to travel, which she did extensively.

Anita was the Beloved Wife of the late Harry S. Abrams. Loving Mother of Rick (Nancy) Abrams of Tucson, AZ and Patricia (Peter Dermer) Bray of West Haven. Cherished Grandmother of Julie (Nelson) Suriel, Tracy Bray, Lauren (Fabio) Abrams, Jessica (Kevin) Prue, and Kelly Abrams. Adoring Great-Grandmother of Joaquin, Navarro, & Haylie.

Richard Moulton ’44

MoultonRichard (Dick) Wentworth Moulton, Sr., passed away peacefully at home in Vero Beach on March 19, 2016. Born in Providence, RI, on July 25, 1925, the son of David and Evelyn Moulton, he was raised in Melrose, MA, and attended Williston Academy in Easthampton, MA.

In 1942, 17-year-old Dick Moulton enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps and became a nose gunner on a B-24 with the 758th Bomb Squadron, 459th Bomb Group in the 15th Air Force. He was shot down over the Hungary/Slovakia border on his second mission. Although claimed by Slovak troops, a Hungarian guard took his dog tags, which later deprived him of protection as an American citizen and nearly cost him his life.

Ann Maier Heldenbrand ’42

HeldenbrandAnne Maier Heldenbrand gently passed away on Wednesday, Sept.30, 2015 in Ocala, Fla. She was in her apartment at The Windsor of Ocala, surrounded by her family.

Anne was born April 26, 1924 in Pottstown, Penn. to John B. and Bessie C. Maier.

She is predeceased by her husband, Dr. Ladd L. Heldenbrand of South Portland, her brothers, Dr. John Maier and Dr. Paul Maier, and her sister, Jane Dreyer. She is survived by her daughter, Nan Heldenbrand Morrissette of Dunnellon, Fla. and her son-in-law, Thomas Morrissette, her son, Keith Heldenbrand of South Freeport and her daughter-in-law, Christina Heldenbrand. She is also survived by her granddaughters, Jennifer Kastelic of Portland, and Alexis Heldenbrand of South Freeport; and by her great-grandchildren, Althea, Jonah and Sophia Kastelic.

Anne attended Northampton School For Girls before graduating from Royersford (Penn.) High School, and Pierce Business School in Philadelphia Penn.

Dr. Roger Pierce Kellogg ’40

KelloggDr. Roger Pierce Kellogg, 94, of Rockport, passed away peacefully at his home Monday, March 7, 2016, with his wife of 71 years by his side. He was the beloved husband of his high school sweetheart Norma (Fitts) Kellogg.

He was born Sept. 30, 1921, in Northampton, to Henry Clifton and Carrie (Pierce) Kellogg. Roger graduated from Northampton High School in 1939 and from Williston Academy in 1940. He received his bachlor’s degree from Wesleyan University Phi Beta Kappa. His membership in the Sigma Nu Fraternity was a source of pleasure and pride for him all his life. Roger went on to study dentistry at the University of Pennsylvania where he obtained his degree in 1952.

Neal Lenti Howard ’62

Neal HowardNeal Lenti Howard, 72, of Southampton died Monday, Nov. 2, 2015, at home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Oct. 15, 1943, in Springfield, the son of Eleanor M.(Brown) Lenti and the late Neal M. Lenti, who died in World War II before his son was born. Neal was adopted by George H. Howard, who also predeceased him.

Neal attended Williston Academy before graduating from Easthampton High School in 1964 and from Saunders Electronics School in Boston. He worked in the electronics field, was a former member of the Southampton Fire Department and Southampton Police Department and retired as a manager from Storage Technology in 2005. Neal was also a retired veteran from the 104th at Barnes where he worked in the avionics shop.

Neal enjoyed truck pulling and working in his shop on all kinds of projects. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle and was a commercial hot air balloon pilot enjoying the “ups and downs” of his balloon named Gallagher.

Neal is survived by his wife of 51 years, Jane (Sudnick) Howard, his mother Eleanor Howard of Easthampton, and three daughters, Ann M. Sarafin and fiancé Tommy Bigos, Lisa J. Rice and husband Matt and Laurie A. Boudreau and husband Jim, all of Southampton. He is also survived by his two sisters, Jane B. Howard of Montana, and Susan Farland of New Hampshire. Neal will be greatly missed by his grandchildren Mike and Matt Sarafin, Vanessa and Kayla Rice, Patrick and Bryan Boudreau, and Chad and Chelsea Bigos and soon to arrive great-granddaughter Elizabeth Boudreau. He has been an inspirational role model and guiding presence in each of their lives. Neal was predeceased by his brother Attorney John B. Howard.
