Winter Dance Informal Showing on Friday

Good afternoon, Williston!

I am so happy to invite you to the Winter Dance Informal Showing this Friday, February 27 in the Dance Studio/Reed at 4:00 p.m. Our showing will feature the Winter Dance students presenting combinations they’ve been working on this season in tap, contemporary, and hip-hop/Jazz styles. Seating is somewhat limited in the dance studio, so please make sure you get there on time.

Questions? Let me know.

We are looking forward to seeing you there!

Yetis, Cannibals, and War Heroes at Friday’s Workshop

Dear Community,

What are you doing this Friday night, 2/27, at 6 p.m.? Here’s what: stopping by to the Cox Room to meet Shay, an abused janitor with a penchant for violence who is sure to get into some trouble. A rare, Tibetan Yeti who frequents EMD concerts will also be making an appearance as will Jeff and Alan, two struggling artists-turned-cannibals.

This is just the beginning of the cast of characters you will meet on Friday, brought to you by the inspired students of Williston’s Writers’ Workshop. These writers have been hard at work on their manuscripts and are eager for you to come and hear some of the writing from these projects. There will be treats and refreshments served, so stop by after dinner for some dessert and storytelling.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Sincerely,
Ms. Mantegna & The Writers

Dean’s Office Weather Update

Dear Williston Parent or Guardian,

There is a major snowstorm predicted for the East Coast, beginning as early as this afternoon in some parts of New England and the New York area. The Pioneer Valley is predicted to get up to two feet of snow, but estimates vary throughout Western Massachusetts.

This afternoon, only varsity practices will be held. All practices will conclude by dinner, and day students are encouraged to leave campus by that time. The practice schedule is available online.

Snow, wind, and poor visibility means that our on-campus community will be asked to shelter in place beginning tonight at 7:30 p.m. The dining commons will be operating, and specific times and information will be provided to students and on-campus faculty by the Dean of Students Office. Dorm heads have emergency kits, including lanterns and flashlights (extra batteries provided).

Tomorrow, January 27 all classes at Williston are cancelled. In addition, we will be cancelling all afternoon activities. Our goal is to keep our community as safe as possible, and we do not want anyone struggling with the decision about traveling to or from campus. A decision regarding Wednesday classes and games will be made when we have a better sense of changes in the weather. Please remember that weather-related cancellations and schedule changes will be posted on the school’s website, Facebook, and on Channels 3 (WSHM), 22 (WWLP) and 40 (ABC40/Fox6).

Thank you for your part in keeping us safe and well-prepared for the storm. Please don’t hesitate to be in touch with the campus via the Dean on Duty phone at (413) 529-3911.

Stay warm and safe!

Sincerely,

The Dean’s Office

Psychological Counseling Services

Even though the sun is now rising earlier in the morning and setting later in the afternoon, we still have plenty of cold and overcast days ahead.  These next couple of months can be a particularly challenging time for some.

Please don’t hesitate to contact Dr. Dana Weaver (dweaver@williston.com) or me (bthompson@williston.com), your school counselors, if you feel that we might be of help.  We regularly work with issues such as stress, depression, anxiety, relationship problems, sleeplessness, eating issues, and self-esteem concerns.

I also will continue to offer a drop-in group on Tuesday evenings from 6:15-7:15 at Health and Wellness Services for those of you who want to talk about various stresses in your lives and to learn about effective strategies for dealing with them.

Thanks!

Ben Thompson
