Greetings to one and all! On behalf of the Diversity Committee, I am pleased to share with you some of the religious traditions and cultural observances that are significant in the lives of many members in our community. September is certainly an exciting month as our new school year begins, but there are also several significant days of traditional observance and personal reflection to be aware of, so that we can learn more about ourselves and each other.
As Mr. Hill announced in assembly this morning, for the foreseeable future, we are moving all organized school events scheduled to be outside in the evening. Unfortunately this includes our scheduled night games under the lights. Here is this week’s change:
Varsity Girls Soccer vs Worcester Academy has been moved from 7:00 to 1:30. The game will still be played at Berube Stadium on Sawyer Field.
If you are available, please come out and support our girls in this tough opening game match-up against the defending Class A champion Hilltoppers!
Two other HOME contests:
Varsity Boys Soccer vs Canterbury at 4:00 at Galbraith turf.
Varsity Boys Water Polo vs Brunswick, Choate at 1:00
Fall Senior Dinner is Friday, September 14, 2012 at 6:15 p.m.
The dinner will be held in the Birch Dining Commons and is formal dress.
This year’s guest speaker will be Tim Murphy, Director of Secondary School Placement at the Fessenden School, and a member of The Williston Northampton School Class of 1996.
There will be a dessert reception for the Class of 2013, faculty and guests to follow at the Head of School’s Residence at 37 Park Street
Guests should R.S.V.P. by Wednesday, September 12, to Liz Cheney, interim assistant director of alumni relations, at ext. 3074 or by email.

Williston is a “singing school,” as Ben Demerath, our music director always tells us. And surely, our boys and girls singing groups, the Caterwaulers and the Widdigers, produce memorable moments each year. But even Mr. Demerath was surprised by what happened at Sunday’s first Upper School assembly.
