This year’s State Championships brought together 32 of the best FTC teams in Massachusetts. Our robot, WILL-E, was a rock-solid performer throughout the Scrimmages. In fact, we were the number one Scrimmage team in the state!
However, during the Championships we were plagued with constant hardware problems. This was particularly frustrating since WILL-E had performed so reliability in the matches leading up to the Championships. The issue centered on the gearing of our scissors mechanism. It wasn’t until after the Championships that we realized that the alignment between the gears was set inaccurately. This caused the gears to gnash and forced the lift motors out of alignment. The result was the periodic inability to raise or lower the scissors to their preset limits. This meant that we could not hang in the End Game and had difficulty placing blocks in the goals during the Teleop period.
The high point of the Championships was our extremely accurate Autonomous period. We were able to score the autonomous block in all of our matches. The hard work put in by a number of members in the week before States paid off!
When we return from break, we will be taking the time to analyze our performance and develop data which will aid in our effort for continuous improvement. We are all looking forward to the 2014-15 season.
