Sarah \u201cSally\u201d Miller \u201985 and Jack Doehring have published To Abstract:<\/em> a book of Mr. Doehring\u2019s poetry complimented by Ms. Miller\u2019s multimedia artwork.<\/p>\n

In an email, Ms. Miller described the publication as “a multimedia visual art book with zen-like poetry to teach art appreciation, particularly how to look at abstract art.”<\/p>\n

According to her press release, To Abstract:\u00a0<\/em>was also a strong collaboration between the poet and artist.<\/p>\n

“Breaking down poetry and visual art in to an essence requires skill and sensitivity\u2014both the poet and artist present highly abstracted works,” the press release notes. “The strength of [Mr. Doehring’s] abstract poetic compositions encourages the contemplation of Miller’s art. Together, the artists open up the mind and spirit to nurture deep thinking.”<\/p>\n

Ms. Miller told theToledo Free Press<\/a><\/em> that the book\u2014whose title uses the word “abstract” in the sense of taking from or simplifying\u2014was designed to be a teaching tool for modern art, as well as a showcase for 70 visual pieces and 20 poems.<\/p>\n

\u201cAbstract art is so misunderstood, even today. Modern art is not really understood by the public and even from people who even teach art,\u201d Ms. Miller is quoted as saying in the article<\/a>. \u201cWhen people think of abstract, people think of something as very confusing or kind of crazy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ms. Miller\u2019s work has been exhibited in group and solo shows in museums and galleries, including the Corcoran Gallery of Art and Design<\/a> and The Phillips Collection<\/a>. Her portfolio and reviews of her work are available on her website<\/a>.<\/p>\n
