{"id":1238,"date":"2012-09-22T12:39:19","date_gmt":"2012-09-22T16:39:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/archives\/?p=1238"},"modified":"2017-11-01T19:32:37","modified_gmt":"2017-11-01T23:32:37","slug":"home-sweet-home","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/archives\/home-sweet-home\/","title":{"rendered":"Home, Sweet Home"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Among the great themes in private school life, dorm room decoration is, perhaps, insufficiently recognized as one of the Great Traditions.<\/p>\n<p>But consider the first image below, taken in North Hall in 1903. \u00a0All the elements of modern-day student interior decoration are present.\u00a0 The overall theme might be described as &#8220;Eclecticism, and Too Much Of It.&#8221;\u00a0 There is an emphasis on advertising and clipped photographs, especially portraits of unattainable celebrities of opposite gender.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps the impression of young gentlemen sitting up straight and reading in their jackets and ties doesn&#8217;t seem quite real, but it is somewhat mitigated by paper that didn&#8217;t quite hit the wastebasket.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1241\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1241\" style=\"width: 800px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/archives\/files\/2012\/09\/blue-room.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-1241 \" src=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/archives\/files\/2012\/09\/blue-room.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"631\" srcset=\"https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/archives\/files\/2012\/09\/blue-room.jpg 800w, https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/archives\/files\/2012\/09\/blue-room-300x236.jpg 300w, https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/archives\/files\/2012\/09\/blue-room-380x300.jpg 380w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1241\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Herbert B.
