If you&#8217;re Director of Choirs Joshua Harper, you sing\u2014and conduct, and learn from a world-renowned professor\u2014all through Williston Northampton professional development funds. This week, Mr. Harper reports that he&#8217;s embarking on\u00a0an exciting professional development opportunity at\u00a0the Yale Summer School Festival at Norfolk.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Harper will be attending the <a href=\"http:\/\/norfolk.yale.edu\/school\/choral-about\/\">Chamber Choir and Conducting Workshop<\/a> from August 16-22\u00a0and will be studying with Professor Emeritus of Conducting Simon Carrington (founding member of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kingssingers.com\/\">The King&#8217;s Singers,<\/a> an acclaimed ensemble from Kings College, Cambridge University).\u00a0Mr. Harper\u00a0received an\u00a0Ellen Battell Stoeckel Fellowship and\u00a0professional development funds for tuition to the program.<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"http:\/\/norfolk.yale.edu\/\">program&#8217;s website<\/a>, the workshop is &#8220;divided into coaching, master classes, rehearsals and seminars for advanced singers and choral conductors. Repertoire ranges from the Renaissance to the 21st century and includes both choral and instrumental music.&#8221; At the end of the week, the Fellows of the Workshop hold a concert in the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/norfolk.yale.edu\/\">Music Shed<\/a>\u00a0in Norfolk, CT.<\/p>\n<p>In February,\u00a0Mr. Harper&#8217;s edition of Schubert were\u00a0presented at the <a href=\"http:\/\/acda.org\/\">American Choral Directors Association<\/a> (ACDA) national conference\u00a0and his\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.collavoce.com\/catalog\/item\/die-einsiedelei-43-96830\">a cappella edition of &#8220;Die Einsiedelei&#8221; <\/a>was published by Colla Voce LLC.\u00a0As the high school chair for the <a href=\"http:\/\/massacda.org\/\">Massachusetts chapter of the American Choral Directors Association<\/a>, Mr. Harper said that one of his goals was to make classical music more accessible to high school students and conductors.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What do teachers do over the summer?
