{"id":621,"date":"2013-12-13T15:07:12","date_gmt":"2013-12-13T20:07:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/artsspotlight\/?p=621"},"modified":"2013-12-16T11:28:17","modified_gmt":"2013-12-16T16:28:17","slug":"visual-arts-faculty-give-gallery-talks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/artsspotlight\/2013\/12\/13\/visual-arts-faculty-give-gallery-talks\/","title":{"rendered":"Visual Arts Faculty Give Gallery Talks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/artsspotlight\/files\/2013\/12\/photo3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-623 alignleft\" alt=\"photo3\" src=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/artsspotlight\/files\/2013\/12\/photo3-300x224.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" srcset=\"https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/artsspotlight\/files\/2013\/12\/photo3-300x224.jpg 300w, https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/artsspotlight\/files\/2013\/12\/photo3-1024x764.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/artsspotlight\/files\/2013\/12\/photo3-401x300.jpg 401w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><em>Update: Due to the weekend snowstorm, the Visual Arts Faculty Exhibit artists&#8217; reception scheduled for Sunday was postponed until Wednesday, December 18, from 6-7:30 p.m. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, December 11, Williston&#8217;s Visual Arts Faculty gave artists&#8217; talks in the Grubbs Gallery in conjunction with their exhibition.<\/p>\n<p>Students,\u00a0teachers, and guests\u00a0were on hand to hear Ms. Chambers discuss her installation using corrugated cardboard and to hear about her working process and the role of improvisation in creating the work.<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Verdickt shared the source of her inspirations and the symbolism inherent in the animals\u00a0(mice and rabbits) in her work.<\/p>\n<p>Ms. White described the relationship between her representational and her abstract work, and how she deals with changing conditions at the locations\u00a0at which she paints.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/artsspotlight\/files\/2013\/12\/photo1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-625 alignright\" alt=\"photo1\" src=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/artsspotlight\/files\/2013\/12\/photo1-300x224.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" srcset=\"https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/artsspotlight\/files\/2013\/12\/photo1-300x224.jpg 300w, https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/artsspotlight\/files\/2013\/12\/photo1-1024x764.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/artsspotlight\/files\/2013\/12\/photo1-401x300.jpg 401w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Ms. Goldstein described how she develops a vision for costumes based on specific play scripts, and how she crafts her own\u00a0jewelry from hundreds of tiny beads.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Hing was able to connect his history at Williston and his career trajectory, and to describe how one informed the other. He also described his years as a commercial photographer in New York, and what led him back to Williston.<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Hume discussed her vases in the context of her &#8220;Slow Studio&#8221; line, and how being a designer and a maker both are philosophically connected for her.
