In his recognition of the 10 programs, Mr. Conroy shared highlights and recognized the award winners, which were announced during banquet nights in the week before Thanksgiving.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I wanted to thank all of those of you who wore the blue and green this fall for competing so hard and so well,&#8221; Mr. Conroy said. &#8220;Your sportsmanship was outstanding.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Below are details for each team, including the award winners.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2013\/09\/rockwell2DSC_00051.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-979\" alt=\"rockwell2DSC_0005\" src=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2013\/09\/rockwell2DSC_00051-149x300.jpg\" width=\"149\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2013\/09\/rockwell2DSC_00051-149x300.jpg 149w, https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2013\/09\/rockwell2DSC_00051.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 149px) 100vw, 149px\" \/><\/a>Girls Cross Country<br \/>\n<\/strong>Led by Coaches Greg Tuleja, Michelle Lawson, and Jane Lucia, Williston girls cross country had a terrific season and finished with a record of 10-2.\u00a0 As usual, the team enjoyed wonderful team spirit as 34 girls participated. According to Coach Tuleja, highlights included closely contested wins over Division 1 opponents NMH and Miss Porters, and a great late season race at Suffield in which the team defeated four out of its five opponents.\u00a0 This was only the second time in history that the team achieved double figures in victories with its 10 wins.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Most Valuable Runner Award \u2013 Julie Lord &#8217;16, Rachel Rockwell &#8217;16<\/p>\n<p>Most Improved Runner Award \u2013 Natalie Aquadro &#8217;17<\/p>\n<p>Sportsmanship Award \u2013 Ashley Fitch &#8217;15, Maddy Scott &#8217;16<\/p>\n<p><strong>Boys Cross Country<br \/>\n<\/strong>Under the direction of coaches Christa Talbot, Allison Evans, and Peter Gunn, the 2013 boys cross country team enjoyed another very good season and finished with a record of 8-6.\u00a0 Highlights of their season included a narrow 23-26 victory over Worcester, and two thrilling victories over Suffield: 29-30 and 27-29.\u00a0 (The low score wins in XC!)\u00a0 The team secured a winning record when it swept the six school meet held at Suffield on the last Saturday of the regular season.\u00a0 Coach Talbot notes that all of the boys demonstrated great improvement during the season and benefited from excellent senior leadership.\u00a0 Individually, two boys finished their career by making the honor roll; this recognizes the fastest finishes ever on our home course. Christian Knapp earned 11<sup>th<\/sup> place while Matt Cavanaugh earned 14<sup>th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlan Shaler\u201d Most Valuable Runner Award \u2013 Christian Knapp &#8217;14<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2013\/09\/knappDSC_0170.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-989\" alt=\"knappDSC_0170\" src=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2013\/09\/knappDSC_0170-218x300.jpg\" width=\"174\" height=\"240\" \/><\/a>Most Improved Runner Award \u2013 Nick Hill &#8217;17, Tyler Greenwood &#8217;17<\/p>\n<p>Sportsmanship Award \u2013 Nick Pattison &#8217;14<\/p>\n<p><strong>Varsity Field Hockey<br \/>\n<\/strong>The Varsity Field Hockey team, led by Coaches Logan Brown and Kathy Noble, had an excellent season, finishing with a record of 11-5-1.\u00a0 The team won all of its Class B games during the regular season including exciting victories over Suffield, Berkshire and NMH.\u00a0 <b>This dominant season within our class earned Williston the Western New England Class B title for the fourth year\u00a0in a row!<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Additionally, the team played a strong group of Class A teams very tough including tough overtime losses to Hotchkiss and Loomis.\u00a0 The team\u2019s outstanding season earned them a No. 3 seed and an opportunity to host No. 6 seed BB&amp;N.\u00a0\u00a0 As it had done a number of times during the season, the team rallied from behind\u2014in this case a two goal deficit\u2014to win 5-2 and advance to the semi-finals, where the team lost to eventual champion St. Mark\u2019s 3-1 in a hard-fought game.<\/p>\n<p>Three girls earned postseason recognition.\u00a0 Seniors Maggie Fitzgerald and Catie Laraway were both to the Western NE All Star team while Catie and Morgan Fisher were both named to the NEPSAC Class B All-Tournament team.\u00a0 For Catie, this capped an outstanding career in which she broke the school records for goals scored in a season and in a career.\u00a0 Catie finished with an amazing 85 goals in her career.\u00a0 The previous record was 60!\u00a0 Congratulations again Catie!<\/p>\n<p>Most Valuable Player Award \u2013 Catie Laraway &#8217;14<\/p>\n<p>Most Improved Player Award \u2013 Meg Szawlowski &#8217;16<\/p>\n<p>Sportsmanship Award \u2013 Kaylee Largay &#8217;14, Julia Valine &#8217;15<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2013\/10\/larawayDSC_0201.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-1010\" alt=\"larawayDSC_0201\" src=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2013\/10\/larawayDSC_0201-217x300.jpg\" width=\"195\" height=\"270\" \/><\/a><strong>JV Field Hockey<br \/>\n<\/strong>The JV team, under Coaches Klumpp and Anderson\u2019s guidance, played competitive field hockey all season highlighted by four shutout victories over Miss Porter\u2019s, Kingswood, Ethel Walker, and Renbrook.<\/p>\n<p>Most Valuable Player Award \u2013 Lindsay Whipple &#8217;17<\/p>\n<p>Most Improved Player Award \u2013 Fiona Li &#8217;15<\/p>\n<p>Sportsmanship Award \u2013 Caroline Channell &#8217;18<\/p>\n<p><strong>Varsity Football<br \/>\n<\/strong>Competing in the 10 school Colonial League, Varsity Football had an excellent season finishing with a 6-2 record narrowly missing out on a postseason bowl berth.\u00a0\u00a0 Williston remains the only school in the league that has yet to have a losing record during the nine years the league has existed.\u00a0 This year\u2019s Wildcat squad, led by its 18 seniors, was the highest scoring team in school history averaging over 45 points per game.\u00a0 The highlights of their season included going undefeated at home at Berube Stadium, defeating Gunnery 49-22 to retain the Miller Cup, beating local rival Wilbraham &amp; Monson during Family Weekend and finishing the season with a hard fought 46-20 victory at Tabor Academy.<\/p>\n<p>A number of boys earned postseason recognition for their outstanding play during the season.\u00a0 Seniors Ledell Robinson and Anthony Cruz were both named to the All New England team by the NEPSAC coaches.\u00a0 Ledell and Anthony were joined by Sam Blake and Marquis Francois on the All Colonial League First Team.\u00a0 Earning Second Team All-League honors were seniors Scott Hendrick and Alex Massengill, junior Stephen Goldsmith and sophomore James Griffin.\u00a0 For Ledell, this was his second time being named to the All New England team.\u00a0 His accomplishments this fall are worthy of special mention \u2013 Ledell ran and threw for over 2,000 yards and 31 touchdowns combined.\u00a0 He tied the school record set by Arwin Gbolie back in 2001 by scoring 20 touchdowns in 8 games.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJim Purce Memorial\u201d Most Valuable Player Award \u2013 Ledell Robinson &#8217;14<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2013\/10\/robinsonDSC_0045.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-1000\" alt=\"robinsonDSC_0045\" src=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2013\/10\/robinsonDSC_0045-226x300.jpg\" width=\"203\" height=\"270\" srcset=\"https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2013\/10\/robinsonDSC_0045-226x300.jpg 226w, https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2013\/10\/robinsonDSC_0045.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 203px) 100vw, 203px\" \/><\/a>\u201cEdward Stimets Jr. Memorial\u201d Defensive Excellence Award \u2013 Marquis Francois &#8217;14, Stephen Goldsmith &#8217;15<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLindy Hanson Memorial\u201d Offensive Excellence Award \u2013 Anthony Cruz &#8217;14<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRichard R. Francis\u201d Most Improved Player Award \u2013 Gabriel Breton &#8217;14<\/p>\n<p>Sportsmanship Award \u2013 Eton Chen &#8217;14, Alex Massengill &#8217;14<\/p>\n<p>Mills Kicking Game Award \u2013 Zach Pyser &#8217;14<\/p>\n<p><strong>JV Football<br \/>\n<\/strong>Williston\u2019s football program enjoyed an excellent fall.\u00a0 The highlights of Coach Thompson and Doubleday\u2019s JV Football team\u2019s winning season included a convincing victory over Pomfret and a season ending shutout of Loomis Chaffee.<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Most Valuable Player Award \u2013 Ian Ostberg &#8217;17, Caleb Holmberg &#8217;16<\/p>\n<p>Most Improved Player Award \u2013 Quinn Johnson &#8217;16, Cody Cavanaugh &#8217;17<\/p>\n<p>Sportsmanship Award \u2013 Matt Channell &#8217;17<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2013\/09\/parkerDSC_0210.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-988\" alt=\"parkerDSC_0210\" src=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2013\/09\/parkerDSC_0210-234x300.jpg\" width=\"211\" height=\"270\" srcset=\"https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2013\/09\/parkerDSC_0210-234x300.jpg 234w, https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2013\/09\/parkerDSC_0210.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 211px) 100vw, 211px\" \/><\/a>Girls Varsity Soccer<br \/>\n<\/strong>The Girls Varsity Team, under Coaches Erin Davey and Monique Conroy, had another very exciting season competing with most of the top teams in New England. \u00a0Behind sophomore goalie Olivia Berk-Krauss, the team proved very difficult to score on giving up only 10 goals total during their 15 regular season games.\u00a0 This included shutout victories over KO, Cushing, Kent and Suffield. Besides some great performances in tough 1-0 losses to the top two teams in NE Choate and Loomis, the two biggest highlights during the season included a 2-1 victory over Taft scoring with a minute left in the game and a thrilling 1-0 victory under the lights over rival Wilbraham and Monson.\u00a0 \u00a0The team\u2019s strong regular season earned them another bid to the NEPSAC Class B tournament where they lost to a tough Groton team.<\/p>\n<p>Senior captain Gia Parker capped off her great career by being chosen again to compete in the Western New England all-star game held in early November.\u00a0 Gia was also named to the NEPSAC all star team.<\/p>\n<p>Most Valuable Player Award \u2013 Gia Parker &#8217;14<\/p>\n<p>Most Improved Player Award \u2013 Gabby Jones &#8217;18<\/p>\n<p>Sportsmanship Award \u2013 Ana Fokas &#8217;14<\/p>\n<p>Alumnae Award \u2013 Maddy Hatch &#8217;14<\/p>\n<p><strong>Girls JV Soccer<br \/>\n<\/strong>Coach Johnson and Baldwin\u2019s JV team also had a very good season.\u00a0 The highlights of its season included four shutout victories over Kingswood, Wilbraham &amp; Monson, Pomfret and Suffield.\u00a0<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Most Valuable Player Award \u2013 Kira Wilson &#8217;16<\/p>\n<p>Most Improved Player Award \u2013 Martha Dolan &#8217;14, Myro Marioghae &#8217;15<\/p>\n<p>Sportsmanship Award \u2013 Caroline Borden &#8217;16<\/p>\n<p><strong>Girls Junior Soccer<br \/>\n<\/strong>The girls soccer program enjoyed another very successful fall season.\u00a0 The Junior team, led by Coaches Kay and Seamon, lost only one game this fall going undefeated in its last four games giving up five goals total.<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Most Valuable Player Award \u2013 Abbie Coscia &#8217;19<\/p>\n<p>Most Improved Player Award \u2013 Claire Harrison &#8217;19<\/p>\n<p>Sportsmanship Award \u2013 Catherine King &#8217;19<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2013\/12\/jamesDSC_0255.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-1071\" alt=\"jamesDSC_0255\" src=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2013\/12\/jamesDSC_0255.jpg\" width=\"240\" height=\"230\" \/><\/a>Boys Varsity Soccer<\/strong><br \/>\nThe varsity boys soccer team enjoyed another very competitive season against a very tough schedule.\u00a0 The team finished with a 6-7-3 record to rank in 18<sup>th<\/sup> place out of the 51 schools that play soccer in Western New England.\u00a0 The team finished its season strong with only one loss in its last five games.\u00a0 There were several highlights during their season including shutout victories over Westminster, Millbrook, Canterbury and Suffield.\u00a0 Probably their best overall performance was in a narrow 2-0 loss to eventual NEPSAC Class A champion Berkshire.<\/p>\n<p>Two boys earned postseason recognition.\u00a0 Sophomore Aaron James and Senior Caleb DeMello were named Western New England All Stars while Caleb and senior goalie Bailey Gawron were named NEPSAC All Stars.<\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong>\u201cAlfred J. Ekblom Jr.\u201d Most Valuable Player Award \u2013 Aaron James &#8217;16<\/p>\n<p>Most Improved Player Award \u2013 Matt Cullen &#8217;15<\/p>\n<p>Sportsmanship Award \u2013 Anthony Aquadro &#8217;15<\/p>\n<p>12th Player Award \u2013 Marcus Gould &#8217;15<\/p>\n<p><strong>Boys JV A Soccer<br \/>\n<\/strong>Coach Whipple and Harper\u2019s JV A team played tough competitive soccer all season highlighted by victories over Pomfret, Millbrook and Cushing.<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Most Valuable Player Award \u2013 Joey Teresi &#8217;16<\/p>\n<p>Most Improved Player Award \u2013 Verdi Degbey &#8217;16<\/p>\n<p>Sportsmanship Award \u2013 Terry O&#8217;Brien &#8217;15<\/p>\n<p><strong>Boys JV B Soccer<\/strong><br \/>\nThe best record this fall belonged to the JV B Boys Soccer team led by Coaches Bagley and Niedzwecki.\u00a0 The team managed to finish its season undefeated at 8-0-2.<\/p>\n<p>Most Valuable Player Award \u2013 Erik Ostberg &#8217;14<\/p>\n<p>Most Improved Player Award \u2013 Pun Shusang &#8217;15<\/p>\n<p>Sportsmanship Award \u2013 Waleed Eltigani &#8217;15<\/p>\n<p><strong>Boys Junior Soccer<br \/>\n<\/strong>Coach Garcia and Luikart\u2019s Junior team also enjoyed a strong season with its sweep of Wilbraham and Monson as noteworthy.\u00a0<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Most Valuable Player Award \u2013 Sebi Herrera &#8217;17, Itai Zilberstein &#8217;19<\/p>\n<p>Most Improved Player Award \u2013 Bryan Soder &#8217;18<\/p>\n<p>Sportsmanship Award \u2013 DJ Poulin &#8217;19<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2013\/10\/calderoneDSC_0280.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-999\" alt=\"calderoneDSC_0280\" src=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2013\/10\/calderoneDSC_0280-193x300.jpg\" width=\"193\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2013\/10\/calderoneDSC_0280-193x300.jpg 193w, https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2013\/10\/calderoneDSC_0280.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 193px) 100vw, 193px\" \/><\/a>Girls Varsity Volleyball<br \/>\n<\/strong>This fall, due to a very large turnout, the girls volleyball program fielded three teams. The varsity team led by coaches Chambers and Rutherford welcomed a number of novice athletic players to the team. \u00a0As was expected the team improved steadily throughout the season and demonstrated great team spirit.\u00a0 Coach Chambers singled out newcomers Dina Dahdul, Natalia Baum, Sarah Marion and Mary McCarthy for their huge strides of improvement.\u00a0 Senior Shaina D\u2019Souza was also recognized as one of the best servers in our league with over 25 aces.\u00a0 The team is excited to build on their experience next fall with 10 returning players.<\/p>\n<p>Most Valuable Player Award \u2013 Elizabeth Calderone &#8217;14<\/p>\n<p>Most Improved Player Award \u2013 Natalia Baum &#8217;15, Mary McCarthy &#8217;15<\/p>\n<p>Sportsmanship Award \u2013 Alysha Wong &#8217;14<\/p>\n<p><strong>Girls JV Volleyball<br \/>\n<\/strong>The JVs were led by Annie Schneider.\u00a0 Both lower level teams included a number of new players who improved throughout the season.\u00a0 The highlight of the JV season was a 2-0 sweep of Stoneleigh Burnham.<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Most Valuable Player Award \u2013 Neysa Tapanes &#8217;16<\/p>\n<p>Most Improved Player Award \u2013 Vivien Shao &#8217;16<\/p>\n<p>Sportsmanship Award \u2013 Gillian Peters &#8217;14<\/p>\n<p><strong>Girls Third Volleyball<br \/>\n<\/strong>The thirds team was coached by Ken Choo and enjoyed a successful season.<\/p>\n<p>Most Valuable Player Award \u2013 Kai McCalla &#8217;17<\/p>\n<p>Most Improved Player Award \u2013 Jaiying Tang &#8217;17<\/p>\n<p>Sportsmanship Award \u2013 Emily Grussing &#8217;15, Janyce Carey &#8217;15<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2013\/12\/fryeDSC_0316.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-1072\" alt=\"fryeDSC_0316\" src=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2013\/12\/fryeDSC_0316-296x300.jpg\" width=\"237\" height=\"240\" srcset=\"https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2013\/12\/fryeDSC_0316-296x300.jpg 296w, https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2013\/12\/fryeDSC_0316.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 237px) 100vw, 237px\" \/><\/a>Boys Varsity Water Polo<br \/>\n<\/strong>This fall\u2019s water polo program was led by Head Coach Bill Berghoff and assistants Kate Biddiscombe and Adeleen Brown.<\/p>\n<p>While small in number the team played competitive water polo all fall and enjoyed some terrific wins including defeating both Hotchkiss and Canterbury decisively and enjoying an exciting 14-11 Family Weekend victory over Hopkins.\u00a0 According to Coach Berghoff, the biggest highlight of the season was a thrilling 10-8 victory at Choate against last year\u2019s NE finalist. \u00a0\u00a0For his outstanding play during the season, sophomore Calvin Frye was selected to the All New England team.<\/p>\n<p>Most Valuable Player Award \u2013 Calvin Frye &#8217;16<\/p>\n<p>Most Improved Player Award \u2013 Jesse Ware &#8217;14<\/p>\n<p>Sportsmanship Award \u2013 Ben Moffett &#8217;15<\/p>\n<p><strong>Equestrian Team<br \/>\n<\/strong> Williston has a number of students who participate in horseback riding each season at Fuller Horse Farm in Westhampton under the direction of Carolyn Fuller.\u00a0 A number of these students compete as an equestrian team each year, representing Williston in various riding competitions.\u00a0 This fall, our team of Alyssa Cote, Olivia Foderaro, Rachel Lloyd, and Lacey Gillis competed very successfully at a number of different shows.\u00a0 The highlights of their season included finishing in 3<sup>rd<\/sup> place out of 9 at Mt. Holyoke College, winning the Reserve Championship at both Heritage Farm and Stoneleigh Burnham and winning the outright championship at Biscuit Hill. \u00a0Due to this outstanding fall season, the team has qualified for the Regionals which will take place later in the year.\u00a0 Individually, Alyssa, Olivia, and Rachel have all qualified for Regionals as well.<\/p>\n<p>Most Valuable Rider Award \u2013 Rachel Lloyd &#8217;14<\/p>\n<p>Most Improved Rider Award \u2013 Olivia Foderaro &#8217;14<\/p>\n<p>Sportsmanship Award \u2013 Alyssa Cote &#8217;14<\/p>\n<p><strong>Crew<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This fall,\u00a0led by David Sanders, 18 of our students participated in Northampton Youth and Community Rowing. The students went to the Connecticut River every afternoon.\u00a0 Hamp Crew finished off its 2013 fall season on October 27 with the Head of the Fish Regatta in Saratoga Springs, NY.\u00a0 The novice girls four posted a 6<sup>th<\/sup> place finish at the event; freshman Caroline Musicant coxed and fellow freshman Ellie Pitcher rowing in seat three.\u00a0 That same four also finished first at the New England Junior and High School Regional Championship Regatta. Sophomore Sofia Triana coxed the varsity girls eight to a third-place finish.<\/p>\n<p>The team was also excited to compete in the world\u2019s largest and most recognized two-day rowing event, the Head of the Charles in Boston, MA.\u00a0 The varsity boys eight in that regatta included juniors Josh Simpson and Chase Tanguay, and senior coxswain Anton Wozniak.\u00a0\u00a0Congratulations to all of the rowers on a great fall season!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On December 4, Athletic Director Mark Conroy announced the fall season athletic awards at a special Wednesday assembly.
