{"id":1342,"date":"2014-06-01T20:38:31","date_gmt":"2014-06-01T20:38:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/?p=1342"},"modified":"2016-01-27T21:21:22","modified_gmt":"2016-01-27T21:21:22","slug":"2014-athletic-hall-of-fame-inductees-supermen-record-breakers-and-fierce-competitors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/2014\/06\/01\/2014-athletic-hall-of-fame-inductees-supermen-record-breakers-and-fierce-competitors\/","title":{"rendered":"2014 Athletic Hall of Fame Inductees: Supermen, Record Breakers, and Fierce Competitors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cAmbidextrous supermen,\u201d \u201cone of the finest athletes in our school history,\u201d and \u201crecord breakers\u201d are a few of the ways that the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.williston.com\/page.cfm?p=1153\">newest members of the Williston Northampton School\u2019s Athletic Hall of Fame<\/a> have been described.<\/p>\n<p>Whether they led by example excelled as individuals, or formed part of an outstanding team, all eight inductees displayed qualities that separated them from the rest.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He was a fierce competitor and keen strategist and thrived on winning any contest he coached,&#8221; noted Dan Carpenter, Jr. of his father, Dan Carpenter, Sr., who was selected under the Athletic Hall of Fame coach category this year. &#8220;He worked tirelessly to help his athletes improve their skills. But for Dan, coaching wasn\u2019t about score books or records\u2014it was all about the athletes behind those numbers.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, June 7, the school will honor the newest inductees\u2014the 1974 boys swimming and 1978 boys soccer teams, David (Bartlett) Bates \u201902, Deborah Healy Gilmore \u201991, Paul Doty \u201964, Charles \u201cLindy\u201d Hanson \u201948, Joseph Lynch 1910, and Coach Carpenter\u2014during a special <a href=\"http:\/\/www.williston.com\/page.cfm?p=684\">Reunion Weekend ceremony<\/a>. Kirk Minihane \u201994, of Boston\u2019s WEEI Sports Radio Network, will emcee the event; induction ceremonies will be followed by a cocktail party and dinner.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>To be inducted into the Williston Northampton Athletic Hall of Fame, the inductees were first nominated by their friends, families, classmates, and teammates and then chosen by a Selection Committee.<\/p>\n<p>Nominations are now being accepted for next year\u2019s Athletic Hall of Fame <a href=\"http:\/\/www.williston.com\/page.cfm?p=577\">here<\/a>.
