He never missed a game. When his Williston Northampton team needed an offensive guard and tackle, he switched from his position as tight end.<\/p>\n<p>Curt McLeod could be counted on\u2014in the classroom, on the field, and in the community.<\/p>\n<p>No wonder, then, that Cornell University also selected Mr. Mcleod to be among their \u201cbest and brightest.\u201d On Monday, Mr. McLeod committed to the Big Red during a special ceremony in the Reed Campus Center.<\/p>\n<p>Coach Conroy, who was on hand for the ceremony, said that Mr. McLeod\u2019s was \u201can excellent two-way player,\u201d whose dependability make him that much more valuable.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cHis &#8216;team first&#8217; attitude was a huge part of our success,\u201d wrote Coach Conroy in an email. \u201cHe also was one of the most unselfish players I have coached.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1760\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1760\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2015\/04\/IMG_21391-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1760\" src=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2015\/04\/IMG_21391-1-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Photo by Dennis Crommett\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2015\/04\/IMG_21391-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2015\/04\/IMG_21391-1-250x167.jpg 250w, https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2015\/04\/IMG_21391-1.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1760\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo by Dennis Crommett<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>During the ceremony, Mr. McLeod was cheered on by his football teammates, many of whom have made similar commitments for next year: Marshall Rizzuto signed a National Letter of Intent with Edinboro University on Tuesday, while <a title=\"Alex Ganter \u201915 Signs with URI\" href=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/2015\/02\/06\/alex-ganter-15-signs-with-uri\/\">Alex Ganter<\/a> committed to the University of Rhode Island and <a title=\"John Kay \u201915 Signs with University of Maine\" href=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/2015\/02\/05\/john-kay-15-signs-with-university-of-maine\/\">John Kay <\/a>to the University of Maine in March.<\/p>\n<p>For Mr. McLeod, Cornell was always a dream school.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI visited the campus over the summer and thought it was the perfect place,\u201d he wrote in an email. \u201cI\u2019m the only recruit from Massachusetts so I\u2019m excited to see some players from outside of Mass.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Big Red are a Division 1 team with a 1-9 (1-6 Ivy) record. Mr. Mcleod said he found the coach, David Archer, the nation\u2019s youngest D1 head football coach, to be \u201can extremely relatable guy\u201d and that he was excited to return\u00a0to the tight end position.<\/p>\n<p>As for Williston, he said he would particularly miss the football coaches, who felt like family\u2014particularly Brian Crockett, in whose memory the fall season was dedicated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I met him he kind of told me that I can go anywhere I want,\u201d Mr. Mcleod said of Mr. Crockett. \u201cI never really believed in myself until he kinda made me\u2026and now I\u2019m going to the school of my dreams.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When Mark Conroy thinks about one of his star football players, two words spring to mind: reliability and unselfishness.
