{"id":2170,"date":"2015-11-19T21:44:54","date_gmt":"2015-11-19T21:44:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/?p=2170"},"modified":"2015-11-20T18:42:07","modified_gmt":"2015-11-20T18:42:07","slug":"willistons-star-athletes-in-competition-this-weekend","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/2015\/11\/19\/willistons-star-athletes-in-competition-this-weekend\/","title":{"rendered":"Williston&#8217;s Athletes In Competition This Weekend"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2015\/11\/delaney.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2174 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2015\/11\/delaney-300x277.jpg\" alt=\"delaney\" width=\"300\" height=\"277\" srcset=\"https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2015\/11\/delaney.jpg 300w, https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2015\/11\/delaney-250x231.jpg 250w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>This weekend will be an exciting time for many of Williston&#8217;s fall athletes. \u00a0Girls varsity field hockey will travel to Governors Academy on Saturday to play in the semifinal of the NEPSFHA Class B tournament, and a handful of the school&#8217;s decorated competitors will participate in all-star events.<\/p>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: left;\">Varsity Field Hockey<\/h5>\n<p>The varsity field hockey team won their home playoff opener, 4-2, against a resilient Hopkins School team on Wednesday. \u00a0The Wildcats got off to a great start when Izzy Tegtmeyer found Meg Szawlowski just five minutes into the first half to put the Wildcats on the scoreboard.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Despite the 1-0 lead at halftime, the Wiliston knew that they would have to continue to push for more goals. \u00a0Delaney Belinskas &#8217;16 came through with two quick goals to start the second half: the first off a corner, assisted by co-captain, Lauren Helm, and the second off a great cross from Szawlowski and Tegtmeyer. One more goal off a corner\u2014scored by defensemen Alexis Ryan\u2014rounded out Williston&#8217;s scoring with 22 minutes remaining, but Hopkins wasn\u2019t done.\u00a0 They scored two goals on quick transitions with 21 and 12 minutes left, respectively, to make the score 4-2. Hopkins was awarded a penalty stroke with three\u00a0minutes remaining, but goalie Morgan Fogleman came up with a big save to help her teammates secure the win.<\/p>\n<p>We wish the girls the best of luck this Saturday!<\/p>\n<h5>Cross Country<\/h5>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2015\/10\/borden.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2068 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2015\/10\/borden-188x300.jpg\" alt=\"borden\" width=\"188\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2015\/10\/borden-188x300.jpg 188w, https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2015\/10\/borden-156x250.jpg 156w, https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2015\/10\/borden.jpg 252w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 188px) 100vw, 188px\" \/><\/a>Both boys and girls cross country finished up a phenomenal season this past weekend at the New England Championships. The boys team brought home third-place medals, and the girls team came in eighth. \u00a0Rob Champigny finished third and Nick Hill finished ninth overall for the boys, while Caroline Borden placed fifth in the girls&#8217; race and was awarded All-New England honors at the finish line.<\/p>\n<p>All three runners will be competing in Saturday&#8217;s New England Prep School Track Association&#8217;s All-Star Race at St. Mark&#8217;s School at 2:30 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s all cheer them on as they strive for personal records this weekend!<\/p>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: left;\">Boys Varsity Soccer<\/h5>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2015\/11\/smith.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2106 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2015\/11\/smith-206x300.jpg\" alt=\"smith\" width=\"206\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2015\/11\/smith-206x300.jpg 206w, https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2015\/11\/smith-172x250.jpg 172w, https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2015\/11\/smith.jpg 260w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 206px) 100vw, 206px\" \/><\/a>Two boys varsity soccer players will play in Sunday&#8217;s New England Prep School Soccer Association All-Star games at Brooks School. \u00a0 Senior Imran Hayatu-Deen was named to the all-star team for his strong attacking performances throughout the fall. Some of the most memorable moments from the past season include a great solo goal against Canterbury, and an outstanding game against Cheshire, where he scored one goal and recorded four assists. \u00a0Imran has played an important role for the Wildcats in wins against Salisbury and Pomfret, where he was involved in attacking plays that led to game-winning goals.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Davis Smith will represent Williston in the Junior All-Star game. \u00a0 After a great regular season, and an exceptional performance in last week&#8217;s Western New England Prep School Soccer Association All-Star game, Davis has attracted the interest of many of the nation&#8217;s top Division I and III colleges. \u00a0He hopes to continue to showcase his talents this weekend for the college coaches in attendance. \u00a0We wish both Imran and Davis the best of luck as they lace up for Sunday&#8217;s all-star games.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This weekend will be an exciting time for many of Williston&#8217;s fall athletes. \u00a0Girls varsity field hockey will travel to Governors Academy on Saturday to play in the semifinal of the NEPSFHA Class B tournament, and a handful of the school&#8217;s decorated competitors will participate in all-star events.
