That is, until her mother offered a few key words of encouragement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen everyone told me a PG year would be useless, she assured me that it was ultimately my decision to do what I felt was best,\u201d Ms. Leonard wrote in an email. \u201cShe proved to me that everything will work out in the end.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, during a special ceremony in Birch Dining Hall, Ms. Leonard\u2019s decision to spend a year at Williston Northampton School appeard to pay off in spades. Joined by two future lacrosse teammates, who were making commitments of their own, Ms. Leonard signed a national letter of intent to the University of New Hampshire.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are really excited for her,\u201d said Mrs. Leonard as her daughter put ink to paper. [UNH] \u201cis a wonderful opportunity, and I cannot wait for her to get there and start her collegiate career.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2187\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2187\" style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2015\/11\/rylee-leonard-signs-with-the-university-of-new-hampshire_22450479094_o.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2187\" src=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2015\/11\/rylee-leonard-signs-with-the-university-of-new-hampshire_22450479094_o-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"Photo by Mark Mantegna\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2015\/11\/rylee-leonard-signs-with-the-university-of-new-hampshire_22450479094_o-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2015\/11\/rylee-leonard-signs-with-the-university-of-new-hampshire_22450479094_o-683x1024.jpg 683w, https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2015\/11\/rylee-leonard-signs-with-the-university-of-new-hampshire_22450479094_o-167x250.jpg 167w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2187\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo by Mark Mantegna<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Ms. Leonard said the \u201cclose-knit family environment\u201d of the Division 1 UNH Wildcats was appealing, as was the prospect of entering a competitive program.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am excited to be a part of a team full of hardworking girls with tons of experience,\u201d she wrote in an email before the ceremony. \u201cI am looking forward to playing with and observing the best players to learn from them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As a post-graduate, Ms. Leonard has not had a chance to play lacrosse with the Williston team yet. But with Girls Lacrosse Head Coach Jen Fulcher also serving as her soccer coach this fall, Ms. Leonard said had already learned a few key catchphrases.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs insane as she sounds when she shouts at me \u2018You\u2019re not tired!\u2019 from across the field, she is 100 percent right and pushes me to give everything I have,\u201d Ms. Leonard wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Coach Fulcher described Ms. Leonard as \u201cfast, explosive, agile, a tough competitor,\u201d and a \u201cnatural athlete\u201d with \u201cgreat vision.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At the ceremony, the Leonards gave Coach Fulcher much of the credit, noting that the coach was \u201cabsolutely awesome.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJen Fulcher gets all the credit,\u201d Mrs. Leonard said and noted that she was looking forward to seeing the lacrosse team in action this spring.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLots more to come this year,\u201d agreed Mr. Leonard.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rylee Leonard \u201916 had some doubts about going to boarding school for a post-graduate year.
