\nOn Wednesday, December 2, Director of Athletics Mark Conroy held the annual fall athletic assembly to recognize the outstanding athletic achievements from this past season. \u00a0Williston’s athletic teams had a very successful fall that included setting new records, winning multiple championships, and having a great deal of fun in the process.<\/p>\n

Girls Field Hockey<\/h2>\n

\"fh<\/a>Coaches Klumpp and Anderson’s JV field hockey<\/strong> team played a competitive 13-game schedule this fall and enjoyed a building season. \u00a0The girls earned a great deal of game experience and posted impressive victories over Kingswood and Renbrook.<\/p>\n

\nSportsmanship Award: Ellie Wolfe ’19<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

The varsity field hockey<\/strong> team, led by Coaches Garrity and Tancrell-Fontaine, had a historic season, winning the NEPSAC Class B New England Championship, recording their sixth-straight Western New England Class B title, and finishing the season with the most wins in team history (14).<\/p>\n

Led by captains Delaney Belinskas and Lauren Helm, and senior goalie Morgan Fogelman, the girls won several thrilling games during this fall, including a 3-1 victory of Loomis Chaffee and overtime victories over Deerfield and NMH. The team’s outstanding season propelled them into the playoffs, where they won three tight games against Hopkins, Governors, and Middlesex to lift the Class B trophy<\/a>!<\/p>\n

Boys Cross Country<\/h2>\n

\"boys<\/a>Under the direction of Coaches Talbot, Pelliccia, and Gunn, the boys cross country team enjoyed one of their finest seasons in recent history, finishing with a outstanding record of 13-1.<\/p>\n

Numerous highlights this season included wins over Kent, Roxbury Latin, and Taft; during the final meet of the season at Salisbury, the boys swept eight of the top 10 spots.<\/p>\n

The boys continued their success at the Shaler Invitational and at the New England Championships, earning a third-place finish in both meets. Individual awards and achievements this season included All-New England honors for Rob Champigny ’18<\/a><\/strong> and Nick Hill ’17<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Six runners earned course honor roll recognition, including\u00a0Champigny<\/strong>, who broke the honor roll record by 15\u00a0seconds with a time of 15:42 at the Shaler Invitational.<\/p>\n

Girls Cross Country<\/h2>\n

\"girlsxc\"<\/a>Led by Coaches Tuleja and McCullagh, the girls cross country team had a terrific season, finishing with a record of 12-1.<\/p>\n

The girls’ strong team spirit and supportive coaching helped them achieve great highlights this season, which included wins over all three of their Division I opponents: Miss Porters, Taft, and NMH. The team finished second at the Westminster Invitational, and six current runners hold a top 10 spot on the course honor roll.<\/p>\n

Girls Soccer<\/h2>\n

\"wysocki\"<\/a>Girls JV soccer<\/strong> enjoyed a exciting building season this fall as they competed in 14 games with only 11 players on their roster. \u00a0Under the guidance of Coaches Johnson and Eberle, the girls finished with a record of 7-6-1, including great victories over Suffield, Taft, and Berkshire.<\/p>\n

\nSportsmanship: Kira Wilson ’16<\/p>\n

Under the enthusiastic leadership of coaches Fulcher and Conroy, the girls varsity soccer team<\/strong> enjoyed a breakout season, culminating in a Western New England Class B Championship and a NEPSAC tournament appearance<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In a season full of highlights, the most notable ones include a 3-0 victory of Wilbraham and Monson at home, a pair of 1-0 victories over Deerfield and Westminster, and a comprehensive 5-1 win over Taft. \u00a0 Perhaps the most impressive accomplishment from this past season was the 1-0 win over Class A powerhouse Loomis Chaffee.<\/p>\n

The girls also set a record for shutouts, 10, and had the fewest goals conceded by a Williston team in a season, eight, which shattered the previous record of 12 set in 1997.<\/p>\n

Boys Soccer<\/h2>\n

\"smith\"<\/a>There were 79 boys who came out for Williston’s four soccer teams this fall. Coach Garcia and Kay’s junior team<\/strong>, comprised entirely of seventh and eighth graders, earned hard-fought victories over Renbrook and Rectory.<\/p>\n

\nSportsmanship: Luke Po ’20<\/p>\n

The highlights for the JV B team<\/strong>, under the leadership of Coaches Niedz and Rivenburgh, included a narrow win over Vermont Academy and decisive win over Cheshire. \u00a0Coaches Whipple and Harper’s JV A team<\/strong> gained a lot of experience playing a very challenging 15-game schedule and were able to persevere against Cushing and Bement.<\/p>\n

Coach Chiavaroli and Syfu’s varsity boys soccer team<\/strong> battled through a difficult schedule this season, where they competed against many of the top teams in New England. \u00a0A young team, which will return 14 players next season, gained valuable experience as the season progressed. \u00a0Eight games were decided by one goal, and the team is eager to build upon their successes this year.<\/p>\n

Highlights include a shutout win over Class B tournament team Pomfret, shutting out Salisbury 3-0, and a comprehensive win over Cheshire Academy 5-1.<\/p>\n

Boys Football<\/h2>\n

\"ostberg\"<\/a>JV football,<\/strong> led by Coaches Doubleday and Rivers, gained valuable experience during their six-game season. The team finished with a four-game winning streak to end the fall 4-2. A shutout victory at Suffield was particularly satisfying highlight.<\/p>\n

\nSportsmanship: Ben Normandin ’19<\/p>\n

Coach Conroy’s varsity football team<\/strong> had an outstanding season, finishing with a record of 6-2. \u00a0Led by a potent offense, the Wildcats averaged over 37 points per game.<\/p>\n

Junior quarterback Ian Ostberg threw for over 2,000 yards and 26 touchdown passes, many of them to the dynamic receiving duo of Michael Dereus and Jake Ross. \u00a0Senior captain Nick Garofano finished his football career as the school’s all-time leading rusher and scorer.<\/p>\n

Boys Water Polo<\/h2>\n

\"devos\"<\/a>Coaches Berghoff and McKillop’s varsity water polo team<\/strong> played a competitive 15-game schedule this season and recorded exciting wins against Canterbury and Wilbraham & Monson.<\/p>\n

The most impressive highlight of the season took place at our home pool, when the Wildcats swept Hotchkiss and Andover. \u00a0Senior Calvin Frye capped off his impressive career with a total of 166 goals, and junior goalkeeper Noah DeVos had an outstanding season in goal with 199 saves.<\/p>\n

Horseback Riding<\/h2>\n

Six Williston students rode this fall at Fuller Horse Farm in Westhampton under the guidance of Laura Etzel. \u00a0The six riders brought a range of experience to the program, from beginner to advanced. The team was led by captain Lacey Gillis ’16, who competes on the Williston-Fuller Inter Scholastic Equestrian team. In the last three shows, Lacey placed first and third in equitation on the flat and third and fourth over fences.<\/p>\n

\"goodrich\"<\/a>Led by Coaches Choo and Gross, the JV team<\/strong> demonstrated great team spirit and improved throughout the season. The highlight of their season was a shutout victory over Stoneleigh Burnham.<\/p>\n

\nSportsmanship: Caitlyn Reid ’19<\/p>\n

The varsity volleyball<\/strong> team, led by Coaches Schneider and Moyer, steadily improved as the season progressed. \u00a0Despite the challenging schedule the team faced, its members worked through adversity in games and continued to push themselves in practices for the entire season.<\/p>\n

This fall’s highlights include an exciting 3-2 victory over Stoneleigh Burnham and a shutout victory over Cushing. With eight returning players, the team will have a strong nucleus of players for next year.<\/p>\n
