Meg Rickard has agreed to play\u00a0for the Providence College Friars and Hannah Touzos signed on to play for the University of New Hampshire Wildcats.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Scoring the game-winning goal against a fabled foe earned Rickard a special place in the hearts of her ice hockey teammates, and is illustrative of her role on the team, according to her coach, Girls Varsity Hockey Head Coach Christa Talbot-Syfu. \u201cMeg has stepped up in important moments when she\u2019s been needed,&#8221; Talbot-Syfu said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The forward led the team in points scored this year, her strongest in her three years at Williston Northampton School. \u201cShe finished strong,\u201d Talbot-Syfu said. \u201cShe\u2019s talented, skilled, and presents an offensive threat.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2596\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2596\" style=\"width: 263px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2016\/04\/MR-and-parents.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2596\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2596 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2016\/04\/MR-and-parents-263x300.jpg\" alt=\"MR and parents\" width=\"263\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2016\/04\/MR-and-parents-263x300.jpg 263w, https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2016\/04\/MR-and-parents-219x250.jpg 219w, https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2016\/04\/MR-and-parents.jpg 556w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 263px) 100vw, 263px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2596\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Meg Rickard and her father Jim and mother Elizabeth<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Rickard, who is from Coventry, RI, starting playing hockey when she was 8\u2014older than many of her teammates. As a child, she watched her brother and father, who played college hockey, and absorbed their love of the game. \u201cShe started late but she was filling up the net from the get go,\u201d said Jim Rickard, her father. As a child and early in her hockey career she practiced at the rink at Providence College.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cGrowing up I was always an offensive type player who loved to score goals and that was it,\u201d she said. \u201cComing to Williston, Coach Talbot was on me every day to be a more consistent player in all three zones. For me, the biggest lesson I have learned from Coach Talbot would be not to take anything for granted and always try to play for something bigger than myself. That motivated me to be my best every day.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Jim Rickard took note of her progression on the rink. \u201cWe\u2019re so proud of her and what she\u2019s managed to learn over the last three years at Williston.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Meg Rickard will\u00a0be joining her Williston classmate Rachel Rockwell \u201916 on the ice at Providence College. \u201cI am so excited to be going to school I grew up around. My parents and grandparents, who have helped me get to where I am today, can come see as many games as they want.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2599\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2599\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2016\/04\/Hannah-and-family.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2599\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2599 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2016\/04\/Hannah-and-family-300x292.jpg\" alt=\"Hannah and family\" width=\"300\" height=\"292\" srcset=\"https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2016\/04\/Hannah-and-family-300x292.jpg 300w, https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2016\/04\/Hannah-and-family-250x243.jpg 250w, https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2016\/04\/Hannah-and-family.jpg 653w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2599\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Hannah Touzos and her family: sister Jackie, mother Karen, father Rich, and brother Daniel<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Hannah Touzos &#8217;16 started skating at about 3 years old in the backyard rink at her home in Foxboro, MA. \u201cShe really enjoyed skating and whacking away at the puck and people,\u201d according to her father, Rich Touzos.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Those whacking skills, honed throughout the years, have paid off. Hannah Touzos, a forward, will continue to be a\u00a0Wildcat\u2014but at the college level at\u00a0UNH\u00a0.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cHannah is a worker. She\u2019s a very smart player, a very good forechecker,\u201d said Talbot-Syfu. \u201cShe\u2019s a tremendous penalty killer.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Touzos has played hockey all four years at Williston. Before that she played in youth leagues in eastern Massachusetts, where she competed in two national tournaments.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWhen Hannah joined the Williston Girls Varsity Team in her freshman year we knew she had a uphill battle for playing time,\u201d Rich Touzos said. \u201cThis made Hannah\u2019s competitiveness shine. She worked extra hard in the off-season to return in her second season as a stronger and improved player.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cIn her third year Hannah finally was able to compete and play a major role in the success of the team,&#8221; he said. &#8220;We were so proud of her grit and determination to help her team.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Bottom line: Touzos earned her chance to play. \u201cShe worked hard and her determination to play at the highest level never left her sight,\u201d Touzos said. \u201cShe wanted it and she accomplished her goal.
