Season highlights include wins over Berkshire, Westminster, Loomis, and NMH.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Girls Varsity Tennis team finished its\u00a0highly-successful regular season with 8 wins and 3 losses after defeating Berkshire School at home on Wednesday. Six Wildcats will be traveling to Suffield Academy this Saturday to compete in the annual Suffield Tennis Tournament.<\/p>\n<p>Julie Lord &#8217;16 will be playing\u00a0for the Wildcats in the number 1 Singles tournament. Lord has had an outstanding senior season, with 20 wins and just two\u00a0closely-contested losses. \u00a0With her powerful game and competitive spirit, Julie he has a great chance to win the entire tournament.<\/p>\n<p>Toula Sierros &#8217;16 will represent Williston in the number 2 Singles tournament. Toula&#8217;s many weapons, including a big first serve and strong ground strokes, make her a dangerous player for her opponents. When this talented player is on her game, she is truly impressive.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The doubles teams of Ray Stein &#8217;16 and Fuka Iwama &#8217;18 and co-captains Abbie Foster &#8217;16 and Caroline Borden &#8217;16 will play for Williston in the number 1 and 2 Doubles Tournament respectively. Ray and Fuka work very well together, and they have pulled out some tough matches this year. \u00a0Abbie and Caroline are undefeated this season when playing together, and they will look to continue that trend in this weekend&#8217;s tournament.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I am very proud of the girls,&#8221; said Head Tennis Coach John Chiavaroli. &#8220;Yesterday&#8217;s senior day meant a lot to the entire team because it capped off a great regular season. \u00a0Now I hope that the six girls representing Williston this weekend will be able to continue the momentum from our spring and put in a great performance at Suffield for themselves and for our program.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2647\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2647\" style=\"width: 260px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2016\/05\/strum.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2647\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2647 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2016\/05\/strum-260x300.jpg\" alt=\"strum\" width=\"260\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2016\/05\/strum-260x300.jpg 260w, https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2016\/05\/strum-217x250.jpg 217w, https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2016\/05\/strum.jpg 288w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 260px) 100vw, 260px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2647\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jordan Strum &#8217;18 has led the Softball team into the playoffs after finishing the regular season with a four-game win streak.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Softball finished the regular season with a four-game winning streak that safely placed them in the Western New England Class A playoffs. \u00a0The Wildcats are the number-2 seed and will host Taft on Galbraith field at 3 p.m. on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Over the past week, Coach Amber Rodgers&#8217; team has outscored its\u00a0opponents 17-9 en route to four straight wins. \u00a0Some tight encounters with Loomis\u20145-4\u2014and Stoneleigh Burnham\u20142-1\u2014highlight the Wildcats&#8217; strong camaraderie and never-say-die attitude, which have been key factors to their success at the end of the season.<\/p>\n<p>With the Wildcats losing 0-1 in the bottom of the 7th inning, Jordan Strum&#8217;s sacrifice bunt drove in Jada Goodrich &#8217;16 and Grace Quisenberry &#8217;17 to secure a 2-1 win over Stoneleigh Burnham in yesterday&#8217;s encounter. The enthusiasm from Williston&#8217;s bench clearly helped Strum focus in a pressure-packed moment.<\/p>\n<p>The Softball team will look to continue its\u00a0momentum into the weekend, where players\u00a0aim to emerge as Class A Champions on Sunday.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2617\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2617\" style=\"width: 288px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2016\/04\/osullivan.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2617\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2617 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2016\/04\/osullivan.jpg\" alt=\"osullivan\" width=\"288\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2016\/04\/osullivan.jpg 288w, https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2016\/04\/osullivan-250x174.jpg 250w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 288px) 100vw, 288px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2617\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Williston hosts the Colonial Tournament for Boys Varsity Lacrosse on Saturday afternoon on Galbraith and Sawyer fields.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Williston will host the annual Colonial League Boys Lacrosse Tournament on Saturday. \u00a0In addition to the Boys Varsity Lacrosse team, the Gunnery, Pomfret, and Canterbury will compete for the tournament crown.<\/p>\n<p>Gunnery and Canterbury will square off at noon\u00a0on Galbraith field, while Williston will host Pomfret on Sawyer field at the same time. The winners of these games will face each other at 3 p.m. on Galbraith field for the title.<\/p>\n<p>The Wildcats finished their regular season with a record of 8-7. They defeated Pomfret, 16-7, and Canterbury, 8-6, but lost a close game to the Gunnery, 7-4, early this spring.<\/p>\n<p>Led by the strong play of Nick Garofano &#8217;16, Aidan Rai &#8217;16, and Joey Ford &#8217;19 in attack, Kevin O&#8217;Sullivan &#8217;18 on face-offs, and Sam Milnes &#8217;18 in net, the boys team will look to cap off the\u00a0season by raising a trophy on their home field on Saturday afternoon.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2691\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2691\" style=\"width: 288px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2016\/05\/chen.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2691\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2691 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2016\/05\/chen.jpg\" alt=\"chen\" width=\"288\" height=\"299\" srcset=\"https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2016\/05\/chen.jpg 288w, https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2016\/05\/chen-241x250.jpg 241w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 288px) 100vw, 288px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2691\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Henry Chen &#8217;16 has won many hurdles competitions this season.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Boys and Girls Track teams will travel to Tabor Academy this Saturday to compete in the New England Championships. After an outstanding regular season under new Head Coach Chris Pelliccia, where both teams finished with a 13-2 record, our athletes are eager to set new personal records in their events.<\/p>\n<p>Highlights of the regular season include: Rachel Rockwell &#8217;16 breaking the 100-meter hurdle record with a time of 15.1 seconds; the boys 4&#215;100-meter relay team of Kolby Terrelonge &#8217;16, Isaiah Brooks &#8217;16, Mark Wilson &#8217;16, and Michael Dereus &#8217;16 setting a record time of 44.0 seconds, and Alexis Ryan &#8217;17 shattering a 30-year discuss record by one inch.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2568\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2568\" style=\"width: 208px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2016\/04\/folger.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2568\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2568 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2016\/04\/folger-208x300.jpg\" alt=\"folger\" width=\"208\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2016\/04\/folger-208x300.jpg 208w, https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2016\/04\/folger-173x250.jpg 173w, https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2016\/04\/folger.jpg 290w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 208px) 100vw, 208px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2568\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Matt Folger &#8217;16 has played an important role for Williston&#8217;s emerging Ultimate team this spring.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Williston&#8217;s Ultimate Frisbee team, led by coaches Alex Rivenburgh and Dan Roe, will compete in the New England Prep School Ultimate League tournament held at Deerfield Academy on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>After a strong start to the season, where the team recorded wins over Northampton High School and Northfield Mount Hermon, Coach Rivenbugh&#8217;s team faced some of the best competition in the nation. The team closed its\u00a0regular season on a two game winning streak that they hope to carry through the NEPSUL championships.<\/p>\n<p>Senior Matt Folger was a dominant presence on both defense and offense this year, and\u00a0Abby Seltzer &#8217;20 has shown great growth in her offensive game to complement her excellent defensive mind and presence on the field.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are a young team that fought our way to some gritty wins and show some great promise for future years,&#8221; says Coach Rivenburgh about this year&#8217;s team. \u00a0&#8220;This weekend\u2019s tournament is going to be a tough one. We are seeded ninth\u00a0out of 12 teams, but we are hoping to show those schools that the Williston Ultimate Frisbee team is a team on the rise.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s cheer on our Wildcats as they strive to win championship and set new record this weekend.
