Seniors Recognized For Denman and Alumnae Awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Williston&#8217;s\u00a0two most prestigious senior athletic awards, the George Denman Bowl for boys and the Alumnae Bowl for girls, were awarded to five Williston seniors at the conclusion of last Friday&#8217;s athletic ceremony. \u00a0The prizes are awarded to seniors whose contribution to the athletic program have been characterized by exceptional achievement, faithful participation, and loyal devotion to the best interests of the school.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2063\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2063\" style=\"width: 288px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2015\/10\/dereus.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2063\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2063 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2015\/10\/dereus.jpg\" alt=\"dereus\" width=\"288\" height=\"253\" srcset=\"https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2015\/10\/dereus.jpg 288w, https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2015\/10\/dereus-250x220.jpg 250w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 288px) 100vw, 288px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2063\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Michael Dereus was the Offensive MVP for Varsity Football this fall, and he set school record times in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes for Boys Track this spring.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>This year&#8217;s Denman Award was shared by three exceptional senior boys. \u00a0 Michael Dereus was the first mentioned recipient. \u00a0He has been a terrific two-sport athlete during his two years at Williston.\u00a0\u00a0 During the fall, Dereus was an outstanding receiver for the Varsity Football team, averaging over 20 yards per catch, while totaling a school record of 19 touchdown receptions in the past two years. \u00a0He was named all-league both years and All-New England as a senior. \u00a0\u00a0During the spring season, Mike brought his great speed and athleticism to the track and field program where he captained the team.\u00a0 He was undefeated in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes, breaking the school records in both events. \u00a0At the NEPSAC championships, he was named the Most Outstanding Male Competitor of the meet. \u00a0He is regarding by his coaches as a tremendous team player, whose work ethic and self-less approach made him a exceptional young man to coach.<!--more--><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2522\" wp-att-2522\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2522 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2016\/03\/ross1.jpg\" alt=\"ross1\" width=\"280\" height=\"242\" srcset=\"https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2016\/03\/ross1.jpg 280w, https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2016\/03\/ross1-250x216.jpg 250w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 280px) 100vw, 280px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2522\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jake Ross lead all his teams to success during his distinguished athletic career.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Jake Ross, the second recipient of the Denman Award, had an equally accomplished two years at Williston, impacting three programs.\u00a0\u00a0 In the fall, Ross led the Varsity Football team with 45 receptions and set a school record of 844 yards and 10 touchdowns.\u00a0 He was named to the all-league team while sharing the Offensive MVP award with Dereus.\u00a0 During the winter, he captained the Wildcat&#8217;s basketball team the past two years, leading his teammates to two consecutive NEPSAC Class A championships. \u00a0He was named to the\u00a0\u00a0All-New England 2<sup>nd<\/sup> Team as a junior and the Most Outstanding player of the NEPSAC tournament this past winter.\u00a0 In the spring, Jake captained the Lacrosse squad while earning all league honors during both his junior and senior years.\u00a0\u00a0 He is regarded by his coaches as a tremendous competitor who always played his best in the biggest games.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2563\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2563\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2016\/04\/boyden-award-nick-and-coach.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2563\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2563 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2016\/04\/boyden-award-nick-and-coach-300x210.jpg\" alt=\"boyden award - nick and coach\" width=\"300\" height=\"210\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2563\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Nick Garfano won many awards during his senior year. In addition to winning the Denman Award, Garofano was an All-American in lacrosse, and he won the Dr. Frank L. Boyden Award earlier this year.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Nick Garofano, the third recipient of the Denman Award, had a tremendous four-year career at Williston, where he earned 10 varsity letters. \u00a0During the fall, he had an exceptional football career, captaining the Wildcats as a senior and rewriting the school record books as a running back, setting a single-season and career scoring and\u00a0rushing records.\u00a0 In the winter, Garofano earned two letters playing defense in hockey.\u00a0 During the spring, Nick&#8217;s list of accomplishments speak for themselves: team captain, four time all-league, league offensive play of the year as a junior, career assists leader, and the first All-American in our school\u2019s history for Boys Lacrosse. \u00a0A tremendous competitor, he was regarding by his coaches as a young man who also played his best in the biggest games.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2225\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2225\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2015\/11\/belinskas2.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2225\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2225 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2015\/11\/belinskas2-300x226.jpg\" alt=\"belinskas2\" width=\"300\" height=\"226\" srcset=\"https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2015\/11\/belinskas2.jpg 300w, https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2015\/11\/belinskas2-250x188.jpg 250w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2225\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Delaney Belinskas won two NEPSAC championships during her senior year.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Alumnae Bowl was also shared by two girls who won 12 varsity letters during their four years at Williston. \u00a0Delaney Belinskas, the first recipient of this prestigious award, certainly has left her mark on Williston athletics. \u00a0\u00a0In the fall, she captained the Varsity Field Hockey team, leading her teammates to their first NEPSAC championship.\u00a0 Her clutch play throughout the season and postseason was instrumental to the team\u2019s success.\u00a0 True to form, she scored the winning goal in the 4<sup>th<\/sup> overtime to help the Wildcats clinch the championship!\u00a0 During the winter, Belinskas was a critical contributor to the most successful girls hockey era in the history of our school.\u00a0 One of the top forwards in New England, she was named to the prestigious All-NEPSAC Second Team as a junior and First Team as a senior while scoring over a 100 points.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 During the spring, Delaney excelled as an All-League shortstop, leading the Wildcats to three consecutive Class A tournament berths, including first championship this spring. \u00a0Beyond her outstanding accomplishments, she is widely considered by her coaches as a fierce competitor and a loyal and gracious teammate.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2326\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2326\" style=\"width: 264px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2015\/12\/rockwell.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2326\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2326 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2015\/12\/rockwell-264x300.jpg\" alt=\"rockwell\" width=\"264\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2015\/12\/rockwell-264x300.jpg 264w, https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2015\/12\/rockwell-220x250.jpg 220w, https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2015\/12\/rockwell.jpg 275w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 264px) 100vw, 264px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2326\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Rachel Rockwell has been a tremendous ambassador for Williston athletics.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Rachel Rockwell, the second recipient of the Alumnae Award, also left her mark during her four years at Williston.\u00a0\u00a0 In the fall, she ran cross country, earning MVP as a sophomore and captaining the team her final two years.\u00a0\u00a0 During the winter, Rockwell also made the Ice Hockey All-NEPSAC team both as a junior and as a senior.\u00a0\u00a0 An outstanding defenseman, she was part of a Wildcat team that gave up only 36 goals in 49 games the past two years.\u00a0\u00a0 During the spring, Rachel captained the Girls Track and Field team and became one of the most versatile track and field athletes in Western New England Division II track. \u00a0During the past four years, she scored points in four different events at the NEPSAC championships, including winning the javelin as a sophomore.\u00a0 As a senior, she broke the 100-meter hurdles record that was set in 1991!
