Citing the athletes\u2019 sportsmanship, spirit, and class on and off the field, Conroy said, \u201cIt was a real treat every Wednesday and Saturday to watch you compete.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Horseback Riding<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Conroy recognized four students, Aidenne Alden, Alex Foster, Momoka Oda, and Villard Xu, participants in the school\u2019s horseback riding program, which trains at Fuller Horse Farm in Westhampton under the direction of Laura Etzel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCoach Laura Etzel says that the group was a great pleasure to work with, improved tremendously this fall, and are getting close to being able to compete in the spring season,\u201d Conroy said.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Football<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Moving on to football, Conroy praised \u201cthe boys\u2019 ability to remain positive and resilient\u201d while competing in the Erickson League, \u201carguably the most competitive prep football league in New England.\u201d Despite a challenging season, the team \u201cenjoyed terrific team comaraderie.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Conroy took special note of two students. PG Austin Ryan, the team\u2019s wide receiver, racked up 58 receptions for 1,032 yards, both school records. \u201cIncredibly,\u201d Conroy said, \u201che accomplished this in about six-and-a-half games!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Conroy then called starting quarterback, senior Ian Ostberg, \u201ca huge contributor to Williston football the past four years. He has rewritten the school record book, now owning both season and career records for passing yards and touchdown passes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>These career totals, Conroy noted, include 45 touchdown passes and throwing for 4,310 yards.<\/p>\n<p>Several players earned postseason recognition for their outstanding play during the season. Austin Ryan, was named to the prestigious All New England team by the NEPSAC football coaches association. Additionally, three boys were named Erickson League all-stars: Austin Ryan, Nate Balthazard, and Brandyn Jones.<\/p>\n<p>On the Junior Varsity football team, the Most Valuable Player award was given to Ben Normandin \u201919; the Most Improved Player award was given to Tad Daley \u201920; and Josh Holmberg \u201918 earned the Sportsmanship award.<\/p>\n<p>A crop of awards was given to several varsity football players:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJim Purce Memorial\u201d Award for Overall Excellence \u2013 Ian Ostberg \u201917 (2<sup>nd<\/sup> year in a row); \u201cEdward Stimets Jr. Memorial\u201d Defensive Excellence Award \u2013 Derek Zewinski \u201917 (2<sup>nd<\/sup> year in a row); \u201cLindy Hanson Memorial\u201d Offensive Excellence Award \u2013 Nate Balthazard \u201917, Austin Ryan \u201917; \u201cRichard R. Francis\u201d Most Improved Player Award \u2013 GB Osuntogun \u201918; Mills Kicking Game Award \u2013 Elijah Hutchinson \u201918; Sportsmanship Award \u2013 Hunter Adams \u201917, and Dome Klonggumrai \u201917.<\/p>\n<p>Next year\u2019s captains will be Mason Balch \u201918, Noah Clack \u201918, Brandyn Jones \u201918, and Xavier Thibault \u201918.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Volleyball<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cLed by Coaches Rivenburgh and Berlanga, the JV volleyball team had one of their finest seasons in recent memory with seven wins, including two thrilling 2-1 victories over Suffield and Miss Porters,\u201d Conroy said.<\/p>\n<p>The varsity team, led by Coaches Schneider and Moyer, \u201cimproved significantly and played competitive volleyball all season,\u201d Conroy said. He noted several highlights, including a 3-1 road victory at Berkshire, a great team effort shutting out Stoneleigh Burnham 3-0, and a comeback victory over Worcester 3-1 late in the season.<\/p>\n<p>The Most Valuable Player award went to Karen Janocha \u201919; Most Improved Player went to Alexis Parker \u201919 and Hana Tsukamoto \u201920; the Sportsmanship Award went to Zoe Okaisabor \u201919.<\/p>\n<p>On the Varsity team, awards were given to Sarah Marion \u201917 for Most Valuable Player; Most Improved Player went to Danielle Marquez \u201918; the Sportsmanship Award was given to Julia Cavanaugh \u201919 and Kai McCalla \u201917. Next year\u2019s captains will be Lizzie Cuevas \u201918 and Dani Marquez \u201918.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Water Polo<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Led by Coaches Bill Berghoff and Adeleen Brown, the boys\u2019 water polo team played competitive polo all fall, and benefitted from \u201cterrific senior leadership led by captains Noah DeVos and David Fitch, and four year veterans Sitai Chen and Mark Wei.\u201d These players helped the squad sweep Wilbraham &amp; Monson Academy in all three of their matches.<\/p>\n<p>Junior David Janoschek capped off a terrific junior year by being named a Second Team NEPSAC all-star.<\/p>\n<p>Water polo awards went Noah DeVos \u201917 for Most Valuable Player (his second year winning the title). Most Improved Player Award went to Sam Haddad \u201920; and the Sportsmanship Award went to Sitai Chen \u201917.<\/p>\n<p>Captains for next year will be Josh Calianos \u201918 and David Janoschek \u201918.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Girls Soccer<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The JV soccer team, led by Coaches Tom Johnson and Ellie Moore, had an excellent season, finishing with a 9-5 record including six shutouts and exciting victories over Suffield, NMH and Berkshire.<\/p>\n<p>The Varsity squad, under Coaches Fulcher and Conroy, \u201cmade great strides this season,\u201d Conroy said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDespite the graduation of 13 seniors and some tough early season injuries, the team played their hearts out losing only 7 of the 17 games on their schedule,\u201d Conroy said, adding, that \u201csix of those seven losses were to top seeded NEPSAC tournament teams<\/p>\n<p>Captain Molly Zawacki and junior Sophie Weed both were named to the WNEPSSA all-star team while Sophie also made the NEPSAC Class B all-star team.<\/p>\n<p>Awards for junior varsity went to Emily Warren \u201919 for Most Valuable Player (her second year in a row winning the award). Most Improved Player Award went to Kate Quimby \u201919 and Amanda Shen \u201919; The Sportsmanship Award went to Ella Goodman \u201919 and Molly Solan \u201819<\/p>\n<p>On the varsity team, Most Valuable Player went to Fiona Bundy \u201918 and Sophie Weed \u201918; Most Improved Player Award went to Julia Farnham \u201920; Natalie Romain \u201918 took the Sportsmanship Award; and the Alumnae Award for outstanding contribution to the program went to Molly Zawacki \u201917. Next year\u2019s captains will be Fiona Bundy \u201918 and Madison Fulcher-Melendy \u201918.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Boys Soccer<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Led by coaches Kurt Whipple and Liz Kay, the Junior team swept WMA in both of their matches this fall.\u00a0\u00a0 The JV A team, led by coaches Will Eberle and Dan Roe, \u201ccompeted valiantly against a tough schedule,\u201d Conroy said, finishing with a 7-8 record highlighted by victories over Eaglebrook, Suffield and Deerfield.\u00a0\u00a0 The Junior B team led by Coaches Garcia and Niedzwecki \u201cdemonstrated great team spirit throughout their season.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Conroy praised the Varsity Boys\u2019 Soccer team, led by Coaches Chiavaroli and Syfu, for battling \u201chard all fall against many of the top teams in western New England. As a measure of their competitiveness, they had eight games that were decided by one goal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sophomore Cory Booth and junior Jack Phelan were both named to the Western New England prep all-star team; senior George Lantz was named both a Western NE All Star and a NEPSAC All Star.<\/p>\n<p>Awards went to Kyle Grabowski &#8217;20 for Most Valuable Player; Most Improved Player Award was given to Jacob Schulkind \u201921; and the Sportsmanship Award went to Dylan Robinson \u201922.<\/p>\n<p>On JV B, the Most Valuable Player award went to Owen Randolph \u201919; the Most Improved Player Award went to Ethan Huang \u201920; and the Sportsmanship Award went to Finlay MacDonald \u201920 and Aidan McCreary \u201919.<\/p>\n<p>On JV A, the Most Valuable Player Award went to Jonathan Toth \u201920; the Most Improved Player Award was given to Reilly Gluz \u201919; and the Sportsmanship Award went to Ryan Dwyer \u201919.<\/p>\n<p>The varsity squad gave its Most Valuable Player Award to George Lantz \u201917; the Most Improved Player Award went to Zuri Campbell \u201919, and John Killcommons \u201918; and for the second year in a row, senior Saul Blain took home the Sportsmanship Award. Senior Sebi Herrera earned the 12<sup>th<\/sup> Player Award. Next year\u2019s captain will be Jack Phelan \u201918.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Field Hockey<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Conroy recognized JV team, who, under the guidance of Coaches Klumpp and Ram\u2019s, \u201cplayed competitive field hockey all season finishing with a 3-4-5 record including exciting victories over Berkshire and Suffield.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Varsity Field Hockey team, led by Coaches Kate Garrity, Alex Tancrell-Fontaine and Ellie Massengill, finished with a record of 6-9-1 including a 5-2 Class B record.\u00a0 Conroy noted team highlights including included an overtime tie with Taft, a \u201cbeautifully executed game\u201d against St. Mark\u2019s that the team narrowly lost 2-1, and new varsity goalies Gabby Dicomitis and Kira Bixby combining for four shutouts on the season.<\/p>\n<p>Two juniors, goalie Gabby Dicomitis and forward Tori Palumbo, were named to the Western NE All Star team.<\/p>\n<p>On the JV team, Emma Prouty \u201918 took home Most Valuable Player; Most Improved Player Award was given to Casey Feins \u201920; and the Sportsmanship Award went to senior Grace Quisenberry.<\/p>\n<p>On the varsity field hockey team, Tori Palumbo was named MVP; Madison Cardaci was named Most Improved, and Hannah Baker took home the Sportsmanship award. Next year\u2019s captains will be Caroline Channell \u201918 and Tori Palumbo \u201918.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Girls Cross Country:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Led by Coaches Greg Tuleja, Martha McCullagh and Mia Smith, the Girls Cross Country team had \u201canother terrific season finishing with a record of 10-3,\u201d Conroy noted.\u00a0 As a side note, Conroy said the girls\u2019 cross country team has had a winning record 30 of the last 31 years.<\/p>\n<p>Four current runners made their way onto this course\u2019s Honor Roll, Natalie Aquadro, Maya Soley, Claire Harrison, and Abigail Tuohey.<\/p>\n<p>The Most Valuable Runner award went to Abigail Touhey \u201922, the first 7<sup>th<\/sup> grader ever to receive the recognition. The Most Improved Runner went to Nikki Foster \u201920 and Claire Harrison \u201919; and senior Gabby Mercier took home the Sportsmanship Award. Next year\u2019s captains will be Anabelle Farnham \u201918 and Maya Soley \u201918.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Boys Cross Country<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Under the direction of Coaches Talbot Syfu, Loomis and Gunn, the 35 member Boys Cross Country team, the boys\u2019 cross country finished the season with a 12-1 record, its only loss coming from Division I powerhouse NMH.<\/p>\n<p>During the season\u2019s annual meet with KO and Westminster, senior Nick Hill ran the second fastest time ever on our home course with a 15:54. In a \u201cdecisive victory at Avon Old Farms,\u201d senior Billy Ashenden won his first ever race.<\/p>\n<p>For the second consecutive year, the team won the Westminster Invitational; senior Nick Hill had a tremendous day by winning the race while setting a new meet record.\u00a0 Fellow senior teammates Tyler Greenwood and Billy Ashenden finished in 7<sup>th<\/sup> and 8<sup>th<\/sup> overall.\u00a0 The JV team, led by Andrew Spiegel\u2019s second place finish, took second place.<\/p>\n<p>In a meet held at St. Mark\u2019s, Nick Hill made school history by becoming the first Williston runner ever to win this meet with a time of 16:43. \u201c<\/p>\n<p>This finished a tremendous career for Nick as he won numerous meets, won the Westminster Invitational in a meet record, and in the words of Coach Talbot Syfu \u2018was a tremendous leader for us.\u00a0 His passion for running and leadership had a tremendous impact on the entire team,\u2019\u201d Conroy said.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cAlan Shaler\u201d Most Valuable Runner award went to Nick Hill \u201917; the Most Improved Runner award went to Oscar DeFrancis \u201920 and Caleb Stern \u201919; the Sportsmanship award went to Tyler Greenwood \u201917 and Nat Markey \u201920.
