She was also a member of the runner-up 4×100 and 4×400 teams. At a tri meet, that means she was responsible for 12 of the team’s 63 points. Not content with a string of second places, Elin would turn up the intensity at Saturday’s meet at Suffield. There, she won the 100, again took second in the 200, and was a member of the winning 4×400 team. These strong performances helped set the tone for a strong showing against Suffield and Miss Porter’s. A year ago, Elin and the girl’s team beat Suffield by 25 points, but on Saturday, they widened that margin to 55 points!

Elijah Hutchinson ’18- Boys Varsity Track

At our second home meet, Elijah ran the anchor leg of the winning 4×100 and 4×400 teams. Both were exciting races and came down to the final leg. The 4×400 especially was a back and forth affair, and Elijah was able to charge past a strong NMH team on the home stretch. Elijah also won the 400 on the day, with a time of 51.7. He was responsible for 15 of the team’s 62 points that day. Against Suffield and Avon, Elijah again anchored the 4×400, and ran a solid leg to preserve the large lead his teammates had given him. He ran a very impressive open 400, winning in 51.3. While Elijah was disappointed in his second place in the long jump (18’2”), he still jumped a solid distance, and is confident that once he gets the steps down, that he will go much further in that discipline. Overall, the experience and talent Elijah brings has been a valuable addition to our jumps and middle-distance squads.

Dylan Fulcher-Melendy ’20- Girls Varsity Water Polo

Dylan has been instrumental in the great start to the water polo season. In the 4 games this past week, Dylan made several highlight reel saves in leading the team from her goal tender position. This was especially true this past weekend in a big win over Suffield making 12 saves in an 11-6 victory. Dylan also is the spark plug to what has become a deadly fast-break attack with her pinpoint long outlet passes. Dylan is also an amazing teammate to the young squad, supporting and instructing her teammates on the details of the game.

Will Jordan ’18- Varsity Baseball

Will pitched two complete games this week going 1-1. Against Millbrook, Will took the loss despite giving up only two infield singles. In that game he struck out four Mustangs and threw a first pitch strike to 23 of the 28 batters he faced. Against Pomfret he earned the win striking out eight batters and scattering four hits. On the season, Will has a team leading 2.59 ERA and twenty strikeouts. Will is also a well-respected teammate who comes to the park each day and works to get better.

Fuka Iwama ’17- Girls Varsity Tennis

Fuka has been a great leader for the girls varsity tennis team this spring. She has played in very challenging matches against some of the best singles and doubles players in Western New England. She won competitive matches against capable opponents from Wilbraham and Monson, Suffield, and Cushing. Fuka has been a gracious competitor even in defeat, where she has upheld the athletic values of the school. Her teammates value her friendship and leadership.

Nikhil Sierros ‘21 -Boys Varsity Tennis

Nikhil had a terrific performance leading the team to a thrilling 4-3 victory over Westminster. After an incredibly grueling first set victory against Westminster, Nikhil went on to start the second set in outstanding form battling to a 3-2 lead before his opponent battled back to win the set 6-3. This meant that the outcome of the match would all depend on a ten point super tie-breaker. Nikhil showed uncanny resolve, fortitude, and tactical awareness in battling from behind. With the score at 6-9, Westminster held three match points. Nikhil showed great resolve on each point as he won key point after point to keep the set (and match!) alive. Finally, he was able to gain the victory 12-10 to not only win his match but give his team the thrilling victory over the Martlets.

Olivia Bonavita ’17- Girls Varsity Lacrosse

Olivia has a tremendous contributor to varsity girls lacrosse on both ends of the field. Offensively, her sharpshooting and playmaking have made her a constant threat to score and set up her teammates. She works very hard to be her best in all parts of her game.
