{"id":3769,"date":"2018-02-21T22:49:05","date_gmt":"2018-02-21T22:49:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/?p=3769"},"modified":"2018-02-21T22:49:05","modified_gmt":"2018-02-21T22:49:05","slug":"athletes-of-the-week-35","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/2018\/02\/21\/athletes-of-the-week-35\/","title":{"rendered":"Athletes of the Week"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Solomon Neuhaus \u201919 \u2013 Boys Varsity Basketball<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2018\/02\/soloman.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3770\" src=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2018\/02\/soloman.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"177\" height=\"188\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">Solomon has been a valuable contributor to the success of boys varsity basketball all season.\u00a0 Coming off the bench, he consistently provides the team with strong play on both offense and defense.\u00a0 In Saturday\u2019s big win over Suffield, he played a critical role in getting the team off to a great first half by scoring 8 points, including two three pointers.\u00a0 Solomon\u2019s continued development and contribution will be one of the keys to the team\u2019s stretch run.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Natalie Romain \u201818\u2013\u00a0Girls Varsity Basketball<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2018\/02\/natile.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3771\" src=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2018\/02\/natile.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"177\" height=\"187\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">Natalie has been a big part to the Wildcats success this season. She has worked tirelessly, on and off the court, to improve her game. On defense she puts forth significant effort to gain control of each rebound and consistently provides a spark that gets fire in her teammates burning. On offense, she continues to be a force with outstanding offensive rebounding. She\u2019s strong, and isn\u2019t afraid to make contact! Natalie\u2019s energy was contagious this week against Loomis, Taft, and Cheshire. Natalie is always willing to use her strength to gain possession and plays with tremendous heart.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Kevin O\u2019Sullivan \u201918- Varsity Wrestling<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2018\/02\/kevin.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3772\" src=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2018\/02\/kevin.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"177\" height=\"188\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">Kevin is an outstanding captain who leads the team every day with an incredibly upbeat attitude.\u00a0 His sense of humor makes even the hardest workout more bearable.\u00a0Kevin has wrestled at 170# and 195# this year.\u00a0 He was highly ranked at both of those weight classes.\u00a0Choosing to wrestle at 182#, though, conceding weight classes to his teammates, clearly showing Kevin\u2019s team first mentality.\u00a0At the NEPSAC championship, Kevin was seeded tenth, but defeated the 7<sup>th<\/sup>, 6<sup>th<\/sup>, and then 4<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0seeded wrestlers, two of which by pinfall on his way to a fourth place finish.\u00a0 This earns him a trip to the National Prep Wrestling championships this coming weekend at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA.\u00a0Kevin has been a positive role model all season and a key to the team\u2019s success.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Maddy Cardaci \u201820- Girls Varsity Hockey<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2018\/02\/maddie.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3773\" src=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2018\/02\/maddie.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"177\" height=\"188\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">Maddy has had a great season for the Wildcats and has been a big part of the team\u2019s success. On Wednesday, she had a goal in the 4-0 win over NMH. Again on Saturday, she continued her inspired play as she had another goal against Loomis in the 3-4 loss.\u00a0 She plays with passion, always giving great effort every shift, practice and game.\u00a0 She causes a lot of problems for opponents because of her aggressive forecheck.\u00a0 In addition to her stellar play, Maddy is an excellent teammate, one that is always positive regardless of the situation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Thomas Motyka \u201821 &#8211; Boys JV Hockey<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2018\/02\/thomas.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3774\" src=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2018\/02\/thomas.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"177\" height=\"188\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">Thomas&#8217;s dedication to the hockey program, as well as his own personal development as a goalie is illustrated through his hard work at both varsity and JV practices. In the JV game against Deerfield last Saturday, Thomas&#8217;s excellent play in goal kept the contest close all the way to the end. His strong performance was highlighted when he faced a 5 on 3 disadvantage without giving up a goal. Thomas is constantly trying to perfect his skills on the ice, and his work ethic provides a great example for the rest of his teammates.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Connor Capshaw \u201823- Boys 4ths Basketball<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2018\/02\/Connor-Capshaw.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3775\" src=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2018\/02\/Connor-Capshaw.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"155\" height=\"260\" srcset=\"https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2018\/02\/Connor-Capshaw.jpg 155w, https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2018\/02\/Connor-Capshaw-149x250.jpg 149w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 155px) 100vw, 155px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">On Wednesday, in a come from behind OT thriller against Eaglebrook,\u00a0 Connor led the way with 14 points. Connor came up big with several crucial baskets and big time rebounds down the stretch helping to erase a 16 point\u00a0Eaglebrook lead. In Saturday&#8217;s game vs.\u00a0MacDuffie,\u00a0Connor\u00a0finished with 10 points. Connor has risen to the occasion guarding the other team\u2019s most skilled players and continues to leave his heart on the court during every practice and game.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Megan Ward \u201921- Girls JV Hockey<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2018\/02\/megan.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3776\" src=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2018\/02\/megan.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"177\" height=\"188\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">Megan has been a strong presence for the Wildcats all season.\u00a0 In the last week, she scored two goals in a gritty 6-3 team loss to Deerfield. On Saturday, she had four points, including a hat trick in a come from behind 5-2 win over Loomis Chaffee.\u00a0Megan has helped the team as both a forward and a defenseman when needed and currently leads the team with 23 goals and 9 assists in 12 games.\u00a0 In our 9-3 win over Choate, Megan had a record 7 points, with five goals and two assists.\u00a0 Megan is a competitor, always striving to take her game to the next level.\u00a0She inspires her teammates to work hard, have fun, and get better every day.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Kai Paik \u201922- Coed 3rds Squash<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2018\/02\/kai.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3777\" src=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2018\/02\/kai.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"177\" height=\"188\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">At the Thirds Squash match last Saturday, Kai played an impressive five-game match against his Eaglebrook rival. Kai dominated games three and four with a blend of boasts and cross-court shots. Game five was one of the most exciting games of the Thirds Squash\u00a0season, as a back and forth battle ensued. At the close of the match, he showed excellent sportsmanship and poise, as he has done all season long.
