{"id":418,"date":"2012-07-11T16:40:04","date_gmt":"2012-07-11T16:40:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/?p=418"},"modified":"2013-05-31T19:19:20","modified_gmt":"2013-05-31T19:19:20","slug":"prioritize-analyze-attack-3-girls-varsity-lacrosse-players-named-all-americans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/2012\/07\/11\/prioritize-analyze-attack-3-girls-varsity-lacrosse-players-named-all-americans\/","title":{"rendered":"Prioritize, Analyze, Attack: 3 Girls Varsity Lacrosse Players Receive Honors"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_419\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-419\" style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2012\/07\/Instrum.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-419\" src=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2012\/07\/Instrum.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"173\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-419\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Bridget Instrum &#39;12<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>At the end of the spring 2012 season, three members of the Williston Northampton girls varsity lacrosse team\u2014Bridget Instrum \u201912 of Granby, MA; Katie Cavanaugh \u201912 of South Hadley, MA; and Karly Simpson \u201913 of South Hadley, MA\u2014were honored by US Lacrosse.<\/p>\n<p>The title \u2018All-American\u2019 is a designation used to honor high-school lacrosse players, both on and off the field, by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uslacrosse.org\/\">US Lacrosse<\/a>, a national sports organization.\u00a0 US Lacrosse annually awards the title of All-American or Academic All-American to a group of athletes who have been nominated by their coaches.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->An Academic All-American is defined by US Lacrosse as \u201ca player who exhibits exemplary lacrosse skills, good sportsmanship on the field, and represents high standards of academic achievement in the classroom. This player should also have left her mark beyond the lacrosse field and the classroom by making significant contributions of service to the school and\/or community.\u201d\u00a0 Nominations of All-Americans are based on athletic statistics accrued over the season including any club play.<em><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Instrum was named an All-American.\u00a0 Instrum graduated as the first two-time All-American in Williston\u2019s history and the all-time leading scorer in the girls lacrosse program. Girls varsity lacrosse head coach Jen Fulcher had nothing but praise for her player.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn the field Bridget is athletic, explosive, confident.\u00a0 She\u2019s the most dominant player we\u2019ve had here,&#8221; said Fulcher. &#8220;She\u2019s a leader of the whole while still being the kind of kid you want to coach.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s great to be recognized for your hard work,\u201d Instrum said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEveryone is better for having coached her or played with her.\u00a0 She will be missed,\u201d added Fulcher.<\/p>\n<p>Cavanaugh and Simpson were named Academic All-Americans.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_420\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-420\" style=\"width: 134px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2012\/07\/Cavanaugh.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-420\" src=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2012\/07\/Cavanaugh-134x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"134\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-420\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Katie Cavanaugh &#39;12<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Fulcher said, \u201cKatie has been a real asset since the day she joined the team.\u00a0 She made her mark on the program as a terrific team player.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A two-time Academic All-American, Cavanaugh said of the distinction, \u201cIt\u2019s a pretty big honor, especially in Western Mass. It\u2019s very rare.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPrioritize, analyze, attack. Coach Fulcher taught me that and I apply it both in the classroom and on the field,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>Of Simpson, who is a rising senior, Fulcher said, \u201cKarly works hard at every piece of her game, you would want 100 Karlys on your team.\u00a0 This year she has lifted all parts of her game to a real dominant level.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_421\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-421\" style=\"width: 195px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2012\/07\/Simpson.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-421\" src=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2012\/07\/Simpson.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"195\" height=\"187\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-421\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Karly Simpson &#39;13<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cKarly is one of the best players in our league.\u00a0 It\u2019s a well-deserved recognition for her, she had an absolutely terrific all-around season,\u201d said Fulcher.<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>From July 22 to 27, Instrum will compete in the Champion All-American Showcase at ESPN\u2019s Wide World of Sports Complex at Disney World in Orlando, FL.<\/p>\n<p>Both Williston graduates plan to continue their lacrosse careers in college.\u00a0 Instrum will be attending Ohio State University and Cavanaugh will be at Williams College.\u00a0 Cavanaugh plans on playing field hockey at Williams as well.\u00a0 Simpson, a team captain, will be a senior at Williston in the fall.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At the end of the spring 2012 season, three members of the Williston Northampton girls varsity lacrosse team\u2014Bridget Instrum \u201912 of Granby, MA; Katie Cavanaugh \u201912 of South Hadley, MA; and Karly Simpson \u201913 of South Hadley, MA\u2014were honored by US Lacrosse.
