{"id":774,"date":"2013-04-16T16:19:39","date_gmt":"2013-04-16T16:19:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/?p=774"},"modified":"2013-04-16T19:43:54","modified_gmt":"2013-04-16T19:43:54","slug":"athletic-hall-of-fame-inducts-nine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/2013\/04\/16\/athletic-hall-of-fame-inducts-nine\/","title":{"rendered":"Athletic Hall of Fame Inducts Nine"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2013\/04\/1963boysfootball.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-799\" title=\"1963boysfootball\" src=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2013\/04\/1963boysfootball.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"427\" height=\"167\" srcset=\"https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2013\/04\/1963boysfootball.png 427w, https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2013\/04\/1963boysfootball-300x117.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 427px) 100vw, 427px\" \/><\/a>An undefeated football team, an Olympic runner, a National Hockey League player, and a coach who took his team to 15 New England championships are just four of the outstanding members who will be inducted in the Williston Northampton School\u2019s inaugural Athletic Hall of Fame.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><a href=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2013\/04\/MarthaGrinnell.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-796\" title=\"MarthaGrinnell\" src=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2013\/04\/MarthaGrinnell.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"180\" height=\"244\" srcset=\"https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2013\/04\/MarthaGrinnell.png 257w, https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2013\/04\/MarthaGrinnell-220x300.png 220w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 180px) 100vw, 180px\" \/><\/a>After being nominated by their friends, families, classmates, and teammates, seven outstanding individuals and two stellar teams were selected by committee as having the qualities worthy of being included in the school\u2019s hall of fame.<\/p>\n<p>They are: David \u201cDuff\u201d Tyler \u201963, Mark Timm \u201976, Martha Grinnell \u201986, Patrick Rissmiller \u201997, Coach Wilmot Babcock, Coach Ray Brown \u201955, Coach Rick Francis, and the 1953 boys swimming and 1963 boys football teams.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, June 8, the school will honor these nine athletes, coaches, and teams during a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.williston.com\/sslpage.aspx?pid=2815\">special Reunion Weekend ceremony<\/a>. Kirk Minihane \u201994, of Boston\u2019s WEEI Sports Radio Network, will emcee the event; induction ceremonies will be followed by a cocktail party and dinner.<\/p>\n<p>Over 138 individuals, 45 teams, and 13 coaches were nominated for the inaugural hall of fame class. Director of Alumni Relations\u00a0Jeff Pilgrim said that the number of nominations was so high, and of such quality, that the initial group of inductees was larger than expected.<a href=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2013\/04\/Wilmot-Babcock.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-801\" title=\"Wilmot Babcock\" src=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2013\/04\/Wilmot-Babcock-239x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"239\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2013\/04\/Wilmot-Babcock-239x300.png 239w, https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/athletics\/files\/2013\/04\/Wilmot-Babcock.png 329w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 239px) 100vw, 239px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cSelecting the final nine was incredibly difficult due to the high level of accomplishments,\u201d he said. \u201cWe had Olympians, All-Americans, professional athletes\u2026the list goes on and on.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Pilgrim said that the new hall of fame will provides a venue where the school can rightfully honor the athletes, their accomplishments, and the athletic legacy of the school.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.williston.com\/halloffame\/submission\">Nominations<\/a> are now being accepted for next year\u2019s Athletic Hall of Fame. Eligible candidates who were nominated, but not chosen this year, will be automatically added to the nomination list for next year.<\/p>\n<p><em>Editor&#8217;s note: Over the next two weeks, we will be posting profiles of the nine inductees on this blog.
