Arthurs ’13 and Consavage ’13 Sign National Letters of Intent

Two postgraduate roommates—whose ongoing joke is that they are the biggest guys on campus, living in the smallest room—signed National Letters of Intent to play Division II football during a joint ceremony at the Williston Northampton School on February 19.

Dylan Arthurs said a weight had lifted off his shoulders as he signed the official letter to attend Stonehill College in Easton, Mass. as part of the Class of 2017. He was followed by William Consavage, who penned an agreement to attend Bentley University in Waltham, Mass. By signing the letters, and agreeing to the respective scholarship agreements, Mr. Consavage and Mr. Arthurs notified other schools that they may no longer be recruited.

Mr. Consavage, who is from Derry, NH, and Mr. Arthurs, from Enfield, CT, have played on the school’s varsity football team for the past year. This year, the team had a 4-4 record, and Mr. Arthurs was named to the All New England and All Colonial League First teams. Both students said their college decisions were based on a desire to balance athletics with quality academic programs.

“It’s a better school academically, and more of what I’m looking for,” Mr. Consavage said of his Bentley pick. “They have a good football program and I liked the coach a lot.”

English teacher Kevin Kudla, who has been working with both students as their advisor, praised the hard work that Mr. Consavage and Mr. Arthurs had put into the past year, noting that the students were “seeing their hard work pay off.”

“It’s a great day for these two young men and certainly reflects well on Williston and our football program,” agreed Athletic Director Mark Conroy. “To see an opportunity like this come along for two kids who have worked so hard is very gratifying.”

Mr. Consavage and Mr. Arthurs are the second and third Williston students to sign National Letters of Intent this year, following Eric Yarrows ’13 who signed to Florida Southern College (men’s golf). Last year, five seniors signed letters to attend The Ohio State University (women’s lacrosse), Michigan State University (women’s soccer), Pennsylvania State University (women’s ice hockey), Stanford University (men’s gymnastics), and The College of St. Rose (baseball).

Surrounded by beaming family members and friends, Mr. Consavage and Mr. Arthurs said they were both excited to play on their respective defensive lines in the fall. Until then, they joked, they will continue to jostle around in their Ford Hall dorm room.

“The way it’s set up, there’s only a small aisle way and we’re both really big people,” Mr. Consavage laughed. “I have to lie down on my bed for him to leave the room.”
