{"id":691,"date":"2020-01-13T10:13:36","date_gmt":"2020-01-13T15:13:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/boyshockey\/?p=691"},"modified":"2020-01-13T10:13:36","modified_gmt":"2020-01-13T15:13:36","slug":"williston-beats-the-berkshire-bears-5-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/boyshockey\/2020\/01\/13\/williston-beats-the-berkshire-bears-5-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Williston Beats the Berkshire Bears, 5-2\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span>When the last bolt of sunshine hit the\u00a0<\/span><span>Berkshire M<\/span><span>ountain<\/span><span>s on Saturday night, Williston headed to the dressing room after three hard-fought periods with its second win in<\/span><span>&#8211;<\/span><span>a<\/span><span>&#8211;<\/span><span>row and its first in Sheffield, MA since January 10<\/span><span>th<\/span><span>, 2009 when Williston won the contest 3-2<\/span><span>.\u00a0 This time, Williston won 5-2.<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Williston looked to get things going quickly on Saturday afternoon, and that they did scoring just a 1:04 into the game.\u00a0 Williston worked the puck deep into the Berkshire zone and Berkshire attempted to clear the puck up the\u00a0lefthand\u00a0boards.\u00a0 A fortuitous jump by d-man Hunter Wilson enabled the junior defenseman to scoop the puck off the wall and let a quick shot that Berkshire goalie, Jed\u00a0Baliotti, saved with his right pad but the rebound zipped right to Connor\u00a0Hagness\u2019s\u00a0stick who buried the rebound.\u00a0 Wilson got his second assist of the game when David Novotny tried to get the puck from the corner to Wilson standing at the middle of the blue line.\u00a0 Berkshire was able to get a stick on the pass but was not able to gather the puck.\u00a0 Wilson took a shot that was deflected into the air, hit\u00a0Baliotti\u00a0in the chest and bounced onto Novotny\u2019s stick who was skating to the front of the net; he buried his opportunity at the 5:10 mark.\u00a0<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Williston got their third of the period on the power play when Tyler Varin got the puck on the left point and passed to his d-partner Will Tripp. Tripp skated to the middle of the ice and put a shot on\u00a0Balliotti, who appeared screened\u00a0<\/span><span>in front<\/span><span>.\u00a0 The goal was the final straw for the Berkshire coaching staff who pulled\u00a0Baliotti.\u00a0 The game would remain 3-0 for the remainder of the period and for\u00a0<\/span><span>all of<\/span><span>\u00a0the second period.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Berkshire finally got on the board in the third only to be answered by Shaul Mitton who received a pass from Varin sending him on a breakaway.\u00a0 Mitton trucked down the right wing, approached Berkshire goalie Sam Woessner, and beat the junior on a backhand, top shelf.\u00a0 Word on the street is that there was a monkey running out of the building and into the night as Mitton finally got him off his back, netting his first goal of the year.\u00a0 The Williston faithful hope that this can get the\u00a0<\/span><span>Charlettetown<\/span><span>, PE<\/span><span>I<\/span><span>\u00a0senior on the right track from here on out.\u00a0 Berkshire got a second goal with 1:50 left but that was all they could muster<\/span><span>\u00a0as\u00a0<\/span><span>Hagness<\/span><span>\u00a0closed out the game with an\u00a0empty-netter<\/span><span>.\u00a0 The game puck went to Mitton for the game.\u00a0 Trevor Corsello had a splendid afternoon in net making timely saves at important moments.\u00a0 He finished the game with 43 saves.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Williston has a three-game week coming up.\u00a0 First, the Wildcats head to New England\u2019s second-largest city and home of Polar Selzer on Wednesday afternoon against the Worcester Hilltoppers at 4 pm.\u00a0 On Friday night, Williston is at Winchendon.\u00a0 Then on Friday, Williston plays its first home game in the New Year and first in nine games when Berkshire comes to town for a 4:45<\/span><span>\u00a0tilt<\/span><span>.\u00a0 Good seats are still available.\u00a0 See you there!<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When the last bolt of sunshine hit the\u00a0Berkshire Mountains on Saturday night, Williston headed to the dressing room after three hard-fought periods with its second win in&#8211;a&#8211;row and its first in Sheffield, MA since January 10th, 2009 when Williston won the contest 3-2.\u00a0 This time, Williston won 5-2.\u00a0 Williston looked to get things going quickly &hellip;
