{"id":694,"date":"2020-01-24T09:14:55","date_gmt":"2020-01-24T14:14:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/boyshockey\/?p=694"},"modified":"2020-01-24T09:14:55","modified_gmt":"2020-01-24T14:14:55","slug":"williston-wins-two-loses-two","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/boyshockey\/2020\/01\/24\/williston-wins-two-loses-two\/","title":{"rendered":"Williston\u00a0Wins Two, Loses Two\u00a0\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span>Williston took a two-game winning streak into its away game against Worcester last Wednesday and extended it to three by defeating the Highlanders, 9-3.\u00a0<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The first period saw both clubs try to feel each other out with\u00a0a number of\u00a0scoring opportunities but alas, neither team ripped the twine.\u00a0<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In the second period, however, Williston came out guns blazing getting on the board at the 13<\/span><span>:<\/span><span>23 mark of the period when Will Tripp made an in-zone, rink-wide pass to Tommy Harty who made a\u00a0bac<\/span><span>k<\/span><span>\u00a0diagonal\u00a0pass to Jake\u00a0Sacratini\u00a0flying down the slot.\u00a0 The Montreal-native buried the shot between the Worcester goalie<\/span><span>\u2019s pads<\/span><span>.\u00a0 Williston\u2019s second goal\u00a0<\/span><span>came when Tyler Varin took a shot from the left hash marks that the goalie gloved down high but could not control; the puck dropped to his feet and Alex\u00a0Latkovski\u00a0tapped in the rebound.\u00a0 Connor\u00a0Hagness\u00a0netted the third goal of the game when Zach\u00a0Gmerek\u00a0put the puck into the left corner and Shaul Mitton zipped a pass cross-crease to a patient Connor\u00a0Hagness.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Worcester got on the board at the 4:17 mark but Williston answered two minutes later while\u00a0short handed\u00a0when Tripp broke out of the Worcester zone and flew down the left-hand boards.\u00a0 Mitton streaked toward the net and Tommy Harty was the high man on the drive.\u00a0 Tripp made a back<\/span><span>&#8211;<\/span><span>diagonal pass to number eight who made a quick pass back to Tripp who then banked a shot off the goalie\u2019s stick for their fourth goal of the game.\u00a0\u00a0Latkovski\u00a0got his second of the game when he stepped out of the penalty box, took a pass from Roscoe Eade from the defensive zone and showed how you stick handle in a phone booth by driving toward the net and putting a backhander into the net from the goal crease.\u00a0 It was a nifty goal that put the Wildcats up 5-1.<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In the third, Tommy Harty scored an unassisted goal when he collected an errant puck at the blueline and buried a shot past the Worcester goalie from the hash marks.\u00a0 Brandon Barret<\/span><span>t<\/span><span>\u00a0got his first of the year when he got a pass\u00a0<\/span><span>in the high slot and buried the puck in\u00a0<\/span><span>an all-in-<\/span><span>one<\/span><span>&#8211;<\/span><span>motion\u00a0<\/span><span>shot to\u00a0<\/span><span>the far side.\u00a0 Williston would score two more times with goals from David Novotny (assisted by\u00a0Sacratini) and Ryan Deschamps (assisted by Tripp and Hunter Wilson.)\u00a0 The game puck when to Alex\u00a0Latkovski\u00a0for playing an excellent game.\u00a0 Emile\u00a0Savoie\u00a0and Ryan Hennigan combined for the win.<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Williston traveled to Winchendon on Friday night for a 6\u00a0<\/span><span>o\u2019clock<\/span><span>\u00a0tilt with the Wapitis.<\/span><span>\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span>Williston got down early in the game and could never rebound, losing the game 6-1.\u00a0 The Wildcat\u2019s lone goal was scored off a rebound\u00a0<\/span><span>by Tommy Harty.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span>Latkovski<\/span><span>\u00a0and Novotny got the helpers.<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><span>The box of rain\u00a0<\/span><span>continued on<\/span><span>\u00a0Saturday afternoon when Berkshire beat Williston 7-1. Down 2-0 with about 5 minutes left in the second period, the floodgates opened as the Bears scored 4 more to close out the 2<\/span><span>nd<\/span><span>. Connor\u00a0Hagness\u00a0scored for Williston, assisted by Tommy Harty.<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>On Wednesday, Vermont Academy dropped by\u00a0Lossone\u00a0for a matinee against the Wildcats.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span>The game was tight\u00a0early\u00a0but Williston was able to pull away and take the game, 8-4.\u00a0 Ryan Hennigan got his first start in net for the home team.<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Will Tripp got Williston on the board early in the period when he\u00a0<\/span><span>played the pinball wizard<\/span><span>\u00a0shooting a puck that deflecte<\/span><span>d off two Vermont d-men and into the ne<\/span><span>t<\/span><span>\u00a0past goalie<\/span><span>\u00a0Mason\u00a0Kucenski.\u00a0 Vermont answered almost immediately on a man-up\u00a0<\/span><span>deflection as<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><span>a\u00a0<\/span><span>Wildcat in orange and black let a shot go from the half-wall that deflected off\u00a0<\/span><span>his<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><span>forward<\/span><span>\u2019<\/span><span>s\u00a0<\/span><span>stick<\/span><span>\u00a0and past Hennigan.\u00a0 Williston answered back nearly fourteen minutes later, short-handed, when Zac\u00a0Gmerek\u00a0got a puck to\u00a0<\/span><span>Matt Pimental who\u00a0<\/span><span>skated into the Vermont end,\u00a0<\/span><span>dropped a pass to Ryan Deschamps\u00a0<\/span><span>and cut toward the net.\u00a0 Deschamps\u00a0<\/span><span>drove to the corner and hit a wide-open<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><span>Pimental in front who deflected the puck in.\u00a0 Williston went into the dressing room up, 2-1.<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The Wildcats got things going early in the second when Connor\u00a0<\/span><span>Hagness<\/span><span>\u00a0got a pass from Tyler Varin and skated around and into the slot.\u00a0 In the meantime, winger Alex\u00a0<\/span><span>Latkovski<\/span><span>\u00a0skated from behind the net and took a pass from the ever-moving\u00a0<\/span><span>Hagness<\/span><span>\u00a0and tucked in a nifty backhander past\u00a0<\/span><span>Kucenski<\/span><span>. Williston made it 4-1 when Hunter Wilson busted up the right side into the VA zone and let a shot go from the corner that puzzled\u00a0<\/span><span>Kucenski<\/span><span>, who couldn\u2019t control the rebound as the puck landed by the\u00a0<\/span><span>near-post<\/span><span>.\u00a0 A hard-skating Pimental collected his second goal of the game.\u00a0 Brandon Barrett got into the mix when Pimental won the puck in the corner, skated behind the net and made a pass through the crease that he got a stick on.\u00a0 It was Barrett\u2019s second on the year, making it 5-1.\u00a0<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Williston\u2019s\u00a0<\/span><span>sixth goal came when Connor\u00a0Hagness\u00a0skated in on a breakaway, made a nifty move but brought a five-iron rather than a pitching wedge to the game and wasn\u2019t able elevate the puck; no matter, he got his own rebound, took the puck behind the net and fed\u00a0Latkovski\u00a0in front who buried his second of the game.\u00a0 Vermont scored two-in-a-row but Williston bookended the scoring for the period\u00a0<\/span><span>when Barrett got his second goal of the game off a hard-working Richard Stefanik who won the puck behind the net and made a cross-slot pass to<\/span><span>\u00a0Barrett who buried the rebound.\u00a0 Williston took a<\/span><span>\u00a07<\/span><span>-3 lead into the intermission.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Williston\u00a0<\/span><span>allowed one more goal in the third period but\u00a0<\/span><span>the Wildcats sealed the win with their eighth of the game when\u00a0Latkovski\u00a0made a pass from the left dot of the Vermont\u00a0<\/span><span>z<\/span><span>one to an open\u00a0Hagness\u00a0who fired a laser that was blocked by\u00a0Kucenski\u00a0<\/span><span>but drilled home by Deschamps<\/span><span>\u00a0camped out on the crease.<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Williston outshot Vermont 6<\/span><span>4<\/span><span>-20<\/span><span>\u00a0on the day.\u00a0 Brandon Barrett earned the game puck<\/span><span>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span><span>Hennigan ended the game with 16 saves.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>On Saturday the\u00a0boys\u00a0varsity hockey team will face off against Gunnery at 6 in an Alzheimer&#8217;s Awareness game.\u202f Our team has been deeply affected by this disease and as such it is the focus of this year\u2019s charitable giving. The team will wear custom-created uniforms supporting the cause and there will be a raffle to win a game jersey. There is already quite a buzz on Twitter and Instagram about the game, the cause, and the jerseys!<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u202f<\/span> <span>If you can&#8217;t make it to the game and would like to participate in the raffle there will be a Venmo option at @WillistonNorthamptonSchool\u00a0and denote ENDALZ.
