Can\u2019t Take Care of Gunnery\u00a0  \u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span>On Saturday night, the Williston hockey teamed donn<\/span><span>ed<\/span><span>\u00a0special Alzheimer\u2019s-themed purple<\/span><span>, green,<\/span><span>\u00a0and white jerseys and socks in their \u201cAlzheimer\u2019s Awareness Game\u201d to raise money to combat this tragic disease and provide money for continued research for a cure.\u00a0 The cause hits close to him with\u00a0<\/span><span>a number of<\/span><span>\u00a0players and coaches who have witnessed first-hand the disease\u00a0<\/span><span>and its effects on<\/span><span>\u00a0loved ones.\u00a0 The Williston hockey team,\u00a0<\/span><span>lead<\/span><span>\u00a0by Coach Cunha\u2019s tireless work in the weeks and days leading up to the evening, collect<\/span><span>ed\u00a0<\/span><span>donations from the entire Williston community including classmates, faculty, and alumni.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span>Totals are still being calculated as the donations poured in online with some still on the way.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span>While the final score did not fall in Williston\u2019s favor, on this night, there were bigger winners\u2014those affected by Alzheimer\u2019s and those who love and care for them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/boyshockey\/files\/2020\/01\/ALZ-Jersey.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-697\" src=\"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/boyshockey\/files\/2020\/01\/ALZ-Jersey-300x175.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"175\" srcset=\"https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/boyshockey\/files\/2020\/01\/ALZ-Jersey-300x175.jpg 300w, https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/boyshockey\/files\/2020\/01\/ALZ-Jersey-768x449.jpg 768w, https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/boyshockey\/files\/2020\/01\/ALZ-Jersey-250x146.jpg 250w, https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/boyshockey\/files\/2020\/01\/ALZ-Jersey.jpg 878w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Williston got behind the eight-ball early when Gunnery scored just thirty-nine seconds into the game.\u00a0 Down, but not out, the Wildcats traded blows with the Highlander team until the 10:08 mark when Alex\u00a0<\/span><span>Latkovski<\/span><span>, along the right wall of the Gunnery zone<\/span><span>,<\/span><span>\u00a0got a stick on the puck that squeaked to Jake\u00a0<\/span><span>Sacratini<\/span><span>\u00a0at the right circle<\/span><span>; he\u00a0<\/span><span>made a pass t<\/span><span>o\u00a0<\/span><span>Zac\u00a0<\/span><span>Gmerek<\/span><span>\u00a0who let a low rocket go that a fortuitous\u00a0<\/span><span>Sacratini<\/span><span>, driving to the net, was able to tip in from just below the inside hash marks of the\u00a0<\/span><span>slot<\/span><span>.\u00a0 The period ended, 1-1.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Both teams continued to go back and forth until the middle of the second when Connor Hagness picked up an errant puck on the left half wall of the Williston zone<\/span><span>,<\/span><span>\u00a0skated into the neutral zone<\/span><span>, making his way to the right wing.\u00a0 Hagness then drove\u00a0<\/span><span>outside t<\/span><span>o the right circle<\/span><span>\u2019s<\/span><span>\u00a0hash marks and made a sweet drop pass to a just-getting-over-the-flu-but-he-don\u2019t-care Shaul Mitton who let a right-handed\u00a0<\/span><span>snap shot<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><span>go\u00a0<\/span><span>that found the near corner of the goal beating Gunnery goalie, Dan\u00a0<\/span><span>Zajkowski<\/span><span>.\u00a0 While Shaul had missed the last week, he sure didn\u2019t feel like a stranger\u00a0<\/span><span>at the 9:37 mark of the period as he was mobbed by his mates.<\/span><span>\u00a0 Then<\/span><span>, just<\/span><span>\u00a0six minutes later, sloppy neutral zone play by Gunnery gave the Wildcats a 3-1 as Tommy Harty drove down the ice, left of center, made a back-pass to\u00a0<\/span><span>Sacratini<\/span><span>\u00a0who drove to the net and hit\u00a0<\/span><span>Latkovski<\/span><span>\u00a0who was driving to the far post with a soft backhander that\u00a0<\/span><span>was promptly\u00a0<\/span><span>buried<\/span><span>\u00a0and put\u00a0<\/span><span>the \u2018Cats up 3-1.\u00a0 However, with one-second left and on the power play, Gunnery pulled within one.<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Gunnery would take advantage of a breakdown in the defensive zone in the third period and tie the game.
