Alfred Lee Clifton and Gladys Burgess Clifton.\u00a0She\u00a0was married in 1940 to the late Capt. Corben Clark Shute, USN, highly decorated veteran of WWII.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs. Shute\u00a0was a world traveler visiting 38 different countries during\u00a0her\u00a0lifetime.\u00a0She\u00a0was an active supporter and former Treasurer,\u00a0Secretary, Chairman of volunteer services\/blood programs and President of the\u00a0Swarthmore branch of American Red Cross.\u00a0She\u00a0was also a member of Providence Garden Club\u00a0from 1964 &#8211; 2008.\u00a0In 1962\u00a0she was invited to Hoboken, Belgium to christen the launching of a large oil tanker, Atlantic Competitor, for\u00a0Atlantic Refining Company.<\/p>\n<p>After the death of\u00a0her\u00a0husband in 1988,\u00a0Margaret\u00a0moved to Granite Farms Estates.\u00a0She\u00a0served as President of\u00a0Granite Farms Estates Residents Association\u00a0from 1995 &#8211; 1997. At Granite Farms Estates\u00a0she\u00a0made many dear friends, played bridge and hosted many parties and celebrations.\u00a0She\u00a0will be remembered as &#8220;The Hostess with the Mostest&#8221;, and for\u00a0her wonderful flair for humor and a talent for leadership.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Margaret Clifton Shute, 99, a resident of Granite Farms Estates in Media and former resident of\u00a0Swarthmore\u00a0(1949-1989) passed away on January 8, 2013 at\u00a0Crozer Chester Medical Center.
