{"id":1808,"date":"2013-02-05T16:49:27","date_gmt":"2013-02-05T21:49:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/onthequad\/?p=1808"},"modified":"2013-02-05T16:49:27","modified_gmt":"2013-02-05T21:49:27","slug":"more-than-lucky-commentary-by-rachel-chambers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/onthequad\/more-than-lucky-commentary-by-rachel-chambers\/","title":{"rendered":"More than Lucky: Commentary by Rachel Chambers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Editor&#8217;s note: Rachael Chambers coaches JV girls basketball team together with Jennifer Gross.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Two captains from either team approach the refs for the coin toss.\u00a0 The opposing team looks down to shake the hands of the Williston players.\u00a0 You\u2019d think our JV girls basketball team would be intimidated by players twice their size.\u00a0 That just means they have a challenge\u2014and they love a challenge.\u00a0 From the toss to the sound of the buzzer, the Williston girls JV basketball team work hard to keep the ball in their possession.\u00a0 Every rebound is fought for.\u00a0 These girls work just as hard as any varsity team, if not harder.\u00a0 They love the sport and have so much respect for each other.<\/p>\n<p>Our team is not of big stature, but of big heart.\u00a0 At practice they laugh and learn.\u00a0 The girls take that jovial attitude to game day and have fun out of the boards.\u00a0 Not every game is a victory in points, but every game is a victory in attitude and self-respect.\u00a0 Not every day do you hear a teammate say \u201cI don\u2019t care what the score is, I still feel like we\u2019re winning!\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->The team consists of all experience levels.\u00a0 As a coach, I can see every single one of the girls grow in confidence and skill.\u00a0 They help each other advance in the game and rely on each other to take on the (most of the time bigger) team.\u00a0 These young ladies know how to exhaust an opponent.\u00a0 Other coaches have commented on their ability to fight till then end of the game no matter what the score.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey are so feisty\u201d and \u201cMy girls were so surprised by how quick your team is\u201d are comments Coach Gross and I hear almost every game.<\/p>\n<p>I feel more than lucky to coach this team.\u00a0 I am even luckier to work with Coach Gross, who comments between plays on how proud she is of the team.\u00a0 Just don\u2019t stand too close\u2014she tends to hit the closest person out of excitement.\u00a0 Wear shoulder pads.<\/p>\n<p>JV girls basketball knows how to have fun while pushing themselves.\u00a0 You will often hear laughter and good conversation on the bus to and from a game.
