{"id":948,"date":"2016-06-03T14:21:57","date_gmt":"2016-06-03T18:21:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/speeches\/?p=948"},"modified":"2016-06-03T14:21:57","modified_gmt":"2016-06-03T18:21:57","slug":"baccalaureate-poem-remembering-not-to-forget","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/willistonblogs.com\/speeches\/2016\/06\/03\/baccalaureate-poem-remembering-not-to-forget\/","title":{"rendered":"Baccalaureate Poem: Remembering Not to Forget"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Delivered at Baccalaureate Service, Williston Northampton School<br \/>\nMay 28, 2016<br \/>\nBy Sideya Dill &#8217;16<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Like a vapor in the wind<\/p>\n<p>Or the falling of a leaf<\/p>\n<p>Like snow hitting your skin<\/p>\n<p>So many moments are so brief<\/p>\n<p>Some would say it felt like it all started an eternity ago<\/p>\n<p>Some would say it feels like it all started yesterday<\/p>\n<p>Some would say that time here has gone by so slow<\/p>\n<p>But it all went too fast is what others would say.<\/p>\n<p>But here we are about to transition out of this phase of our lives<\/p>\n<p>Here we are trying to figure out what comes next<\/p>\n<p>Trying to piece together how to keep these Williston memories alive<\/p>\n<p>Trying to remember not to forget.<\/p>\n<p>There was that time skated on or swam in the pond<\/p>\n<p>That time we got kicked out of the library<\/p>\n<p>That time we got an email and decided not to respond<\/p>\n<p>And that time that we had too many packages to carry.<\/p>\n<p>When we nailed it in the dance concert<\/p>\n<p>When we painted something beautiful<\/p>\n<p>When the dining hall had that good dessert<\/p>\n<p>Or that thing that time that wasn\u2019t really chewable.<\/p>\n<p>Having gone to our favorite classes<\/p>\n<p>Or having gave the victory bell a ring<\/p>\n<p>In the winter, having smelled the molasses<\/p>\n<p>Or relaxed on the quad in the beautiful spring.<\/p>\n<p>Beating Suffield or really any other school<\/p>\n<p>Hanging with our best friends every day<\/p>\n<p>Going to get mount toms ice cream to keep cool<\/p>\n<p>Or hiking out to Galbraith because we had games to play.<\/p>\n<p>Having fun going to Willy Gras each spring<\/p>\n<p>Heading to the theater to watch a production<\/p>\n<p>Going to assembly and being forced to sing<\/p>\n<p>Playing games on the surface then realizing you missed the instruction.<\/p>\n<p>Being excited and somewhat sad on Senior days<\/p>\n<p>Sitting in the dining hall too long on weekend nights<\/p>\n<p>Clearing the boards to put up new art displays<\/p>\n<p>Or getting ready to play on Sawyer under the lights.<\/p>\n<p>Doing fun things or sleeping on the weekends<\/p>\n<p>Parking in the day student lot<\/p>\n<p>Filling out white sheets to go off with friends<\/p>\n<p>Or running to check in because you forgot!<\/p>\n<p>Acing that test you studied hard for<\/p>\n<p>Making honors and feeling proud<\/p>\n<p>Painting the lion a whole new color<\/p>\n<p>Or winning big in front of a Williston crowd.<\/p>\n<p>So slow down and take time to fill yourself with sweet memories<\/p>\n<p>They say the older you get the quicker time will pass<\/p>\n<p>And if you think that to not be true, you better believe<\/p>\n<p>Because tomorrow we will be the graduating class.<\/p>\n<p>Many of these memories cannot be repeated and this I will bet<\/p>\n<p>So take some time to stop and remember all the things you don\u2019t want to forget.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Delivered at Baccalaureate Service, Williston Northampton School May 28, 2016 By Sideya Dill &#8217;16 &nbsp;
