Connections

Walking through campus the other day, as groups of students on tour passed by, smiling and asking questions, I started reflecting on the recent visit of my good friend, Tim Murphy ’96, who spoke to the Class of 2013 at our Senior Dinner just before Convocation.

I met Tim on his first day of work here at Williston in the summer of 2000. Fresh from his graduation from Boston College, Tim was already a legend at Williston. He had established himself in the Williston community as a dedicated student, a talented singer and actor. He was also an ambassador for the school whose pride and passion for Williston was second to none.

An energetic, passionate person who was also wise beyond his years, Tim became a cornerstone of our Admission Office, helping families to recognize what a terrific and unique school community Williston is.

I have worked closely with Tim ever since that day back in the summer of 2000—sometimes as a colleague, sometimes as a secondary school counselor, and sometimes simply as a trusted advisor who is trying to help a family find the right path for their son or daughter. The importance and the impact of the connections Tim helps people to make clearly has had a profound effect on so many people with whom he has worked.

During Tim’s recent visit, I found it both fulfilling and inspiring to hear him speak about the fact that so many of the connections that have shaped his own life happened right here on the Williston campus. It is certainly something I have always felt sets us apart as a school community, and in September Tim helped to confirm that once again for me.

So, thank you my good friend, and I can’t wait until we connect again!
