Hubbard ’12 Plays Pearl Violin for Peace

Instructions: Play for peace.

Sarah Hubbard ’12 was recently awarded the Daniel Pearl Memorial Violin, which is awarded annually to a gifted violinist for a one-year period by the Daniel Pearl Foundation.  That musician is encouraged to play the violin for peace whenever possible.

On August 8, at the United Methodist Church in Westfield, MA, Hubbard played the Pearl violin as part of the Hiroshima Memorial Peace Walk.

You can see a photo of her playing the violin surrounded by participants, candles, and posters.

During an interview with NPR, Hubbard said she plays,” almost anything I can get my hands on, a lot of roots music.”

In regard to the instruction that she to play for peace, Hubbard said, “I think playing for peace can be in all different sorts of shapes and sizes…anytime we play I think we can feel affected by that music and touched.”

Hubbard will start her first semester at the Berklee College of Music in Boston in the fall.
