Athletes of the Week – December 3rd

Tyonne Malone ‘16

In Williston’s opening against Gunnery, Tyonne scored 11 points, grabbed 6 rebounds and had 2 steals to help Williston come from 12 points behind and secure a 65-57 victory. In Saturday home opener against Berkshire, Malone had a big game scoring 18 points and adding 11 rebounds, 3 steals and 3 assists helping the Wildcats earn a 62-54 victory.

 

Amanda Cronin ‘13

In the girls’ varsity hockey’s season opener against Millbrook, Defenseman Amanda Cronin played an outstanding game both defensively and offensively. Minutes after Millbrook put in their first goal of the game, Cronin countered with a quick step in the offensive zone and a low hard shot past the Millbrook goalie for the game winner. Cronin is a dedicated leader both on and off the ice.

Sam Atkins ‘15

Sam has been a great addition to the wrestling team this year. Every day, he brings positive and energetic attitude that makes everyone around him work harder.  Wrestling in a weight class above his actual weight on Saturday, Sam went a perfect 3-0 with 3 pins to help Williston to a 2-1 record on the day.

Athletes of the Week – Nov. 12th

Ledell Robinson ‘14

Ledell has been an unstoppable force for the varsity football team all season long. Ledell made an impressive showing against St. Thomas More on Saturday on both offense and defense with 9 carries for 71 yards, (touchdown runs of 15 and 32 yards), 3 for 6 passes for 74 yards (1 touchdown pass of 38 yards), 2 catches for 40 yards, 1 punt return for 17 yards, 4 tackles, and 1 interception. Ledell is a very productive player and has been a difference maker for the football team this year.

Liz Calderone ‘14

Liz is a captain of the varsity volleyball team and continuously lights up the court with her team spirit and enthusiasm.  Her perseverance through even the roughest of rallies shows how dedicated she is to being a leader and teammate.  This past Saturday, Liz contributed with accurate and poised sets in the team’s win against Miss Porter’s. Her coaches are continuously impressed with her work ethic and can’t wait to see what she brings next season as a senior.

Terry O’Brien ‘15

Playing at keeper for the boys jv a soccer team, Terry made numerous high flying saves to help the Wildcats secure ties with Deerfield (0-0) and NMH (2-2) to close out the season. Terry was also between the posts for a dramatic 2-1 win over Suffield on Family Weekend. Terry has been leader on and off the field for the squad this season.

Molly Zawacki ‘17

A defender for the girls jv soccer team, Molly has anchored the back line with an aggressive and competitive style of play. Contributing to the team’s win this past Saturday against NMH, Molly scored a goal and played strong defense to keep the NMH offensive attack to limited scoring opportunities.

Wildcat Teams Qualify For NEPSAC Tournaments

Three Williston teams have qualified for NEPSAC championship tournaments. Quarterfinal play is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 14th.

Varsity field hockey (9-5) is seeded fourth and will host fifth-seeded Cushing Academy at 3:15pm on Sawyer Field. Boys varsity soccer (6-4-4) is seeded eighth and will travel to Pomfret to play the top-seeded Griffins at 2:15pm. The girls varsity soccer team (7-6-1) is seeded seventh and will play at second-seed Rivers School at 2:15pm.

Congratulations and good luck to boys and girls soccer and field hockey! In addition, thanks to their top 20 finishes at the Division 2 NEPSAC Cross Country championships yesterday in Hebron, Maine, Devon Greenwood ’13, Corey Palumbo ’13 and Andy Pierce ’13 have all qualified to compete in the NEPSAC All-Star meet on Saturday. Go Wildcats!

 

 

Athletes of the Week – Nov. 5th

Devon Greenwood ‘13

Devon Greenwood has been working hard all season to return to form following an injury that kept her from running through the summer. On Family weekend Devon placed 5th of 103 runners at the Shaler Invitational, winning an individual award. Last Saturday Devon finished 3rd of 70 runners with a time of 17:36 on the 3.1 mile course to help the team win against 4 of their 5 opponents.

 

 

Evan Jacobson ‘13

Evan finished first of 97 runners from 12 schools in the Shaler Invitational cross country race on Family Weekend. Last Saturday he finished first in the team’s meet between five other schools setting a Williston course record in the process. His time of 15:57 surpassed that of Mike Gaubinger ’04 as the fastest time on that course by a Williston runner. Evan has helped lead the Wildcats to an 11-1 dual meet record this season.

Ray Stein ‘16

In her first year playing the sport, Ray is a top player for the jv volleyball team, scoring more than five service winners against Ethel Walker on Saturday. Ray exhibits a constantly improving game, and has been a supportive, hard-working, enthusiastic team member since day one.

 

 

Athletes of the Week – October 22nd

Meg Fay ‘15

Meg had two outstanding games this week against Taft and Pomfret. At left midfield, Meg works tirelessly to support her teammates offensively and defensively with aggressive tackles and strong stick skills. When Meg has the ball she carries it with poise allowing the Wildcats to transition quickly on the offensive attack.

 

 

Bailey Gawron ‘14

A goalie for the boys’ varsity soccer team, Bailey recorded shutouts in the team’s games against Cheshire and Taft. Bailey made a number of outstanding saves in both games to enable the Wildcats to come out with a win and a tie in two hard-fought games.

 

Maisy Glick ‘15

As the goalie for the girls jv field hockey team, Maisy played an instrumental role in the team’s wins over Taft and Pomfret last week. Maisy always brings a positive attitude and works hard to better her skills every day.

Athletes of the Week – Oct. 15th

Gia Parker ‘14

Gia has scored 4 goals and contributed 3 assists in the girls’ varsity soccer team’s last two games against Cushing and Westminster. Gia always gives 110% in practice, in the weight room, and in games, helping to make everyone around her better and more dedicated players.

 

 

Frankie Zumbo ‘13

In a tough loss to Cheshire, Frankie continued to play resilient football from his linebacker and fullback positions.  Frankie had 9 carries for 76 yards and 1 TD, caught 4 passes for 33 yards and another TD, led the team in tackles, had a tipped interception, and did a terrific job long snapping.  Last week in the team’s win over Gunnery, Frankie ran for 115 yards and scored two touchdowns. He is competitive, tough, selfless and a great teammate both on and off the field.

Tiger Liu ‘14

In the boys JV water polo’s most recent match up against Suffield, first year player Tiger Liu made 10 saves in the 9-5 win. Tiger also had 9 saves in the team’s 8-6 win over Eaglebrook. Tiger is a reliable defensive presence and a key factor to the team’s undefeated season.

Athletes of the Week – Oct. 8th

Evan Jacobson ‘13, Corey Palumbo ‘13

Evan and Corey ran neck and neck to take the top two spots in Saturday’s boys’ cross country victory against Kingswood-Oxford and Westminster. Both runners ran personal bests of 16:28 on the 3.1 mile course, moving up to 3rd and 4th on the Williston Honor Roll of top times on the home course by Williston runners.

Khrystyna Vatseba ‘13

Khrystyna has been an outstanding leader for the varsity volleyball team all season. Khrystyna had a strong serve and played well defensively in the team’s games with Deerfield and Berkshire last week. Khrystyna brings a positive attitude and competitive spirit to every practice and match.

Gabby Brown ‘17

Gabby helped the girls jv soccer team defeat Berkshire 2-0 on Saturday with a great cross into the box for teammate Taylor Cheria to finish. Since the beginning of the season Gabby has spearheaded the attack for the team. She has propelled the team’s offense with her strong ball possession abilities and by making smart runs to the goal.

 

Community Tailgate Cancelled

To ensure the safety of our friends, families, and fans, we have decided to cancel next weekend’s Community Tailgate. We are sorry for any inconvenience this might cause. The boys varsity and junior varsity football teams will play on Saturday, October 13, at times that have not yet been determined. Please check the school’s website early next week for game times.

Easthampton has recently been labeled a high risk area for mosquito-borne illnesses such as Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE). EEE is a rare viral infection that is dangerous to humans; it is spread through infected mosquito bites. The Department of Public Health has confirmed three cases of human EEE infection across Massachusetts this year. Officials also have reported 13 cases of another mosquito-transmitted disease, West Nile Virus, in Massachusetts.

Athletes of the Week – October 1st

Taylor Senecal ‘14

In the varsity field hockey’s 6-0 win over Millbrook on Saturday, Taylor notched a goal and an assist. Taylor’s play in transition and on defense was an important factor in keeping the Mustangs off the scoreboard as the team notched their second shutout of the season.

 

Matt Friere ‘13

Matt has had a notable start to the season for the boys’ varsity water polo team. In Saturday’s doubleheader against Hotchkiss and Andover, Matt scored a total of eight goals, four in each game, to help lead the Wildcats to two victories, each by a single goal. Matt continues to be an outstanding leader every day during practices and games.

Hannah King ‘15

Hannah has played impressive defense for the girls’ jv soccer team, showing great aggressiveness on the ball and in her tackles. She was a key player in the team’s scoreless tie with Hotchkiss on Wednesday. Coach Johnson has been impressed with Hannah’s versatility and ability to play multiple positions on the field.

Will Flynn ‘15

Will had great success on the offensive end scoring three goals in the boys jv a soccer team’s 4-3 win over host Rectory on Saturday. William is the team’s leading scorer having notched 7 goals in the team’s first 3 games.
