Duseau ’12 Fundraises for Boston

Alexis Duseau ’12 reports that she’s heading a fundraising effort dedicated to the Boston cause.

She writes, “My college friends and I at Babson College started a business selling sunglasses called, EyeCare for Boston, to support the One fund for Boston, for Marathon Bombing Victims…We are trying to get some more likes on our Facebook page so that we can help as many people as possible!

We sell sunglasses, printed with the phrase “Boston Strong” on one side and the silhouette of the Boston skyline on the other. We hope to bring support and attention to the resilient city of Boston and all towns involved.”

Barnehama ’09 Launches Kickstarter Campaign

Melon, a company co-founded by Arye Barnehama ’09, is going live on Kickstarter on May 14.

According to an email from the company, “Tomorrow morning at 8am EST (GMT -5), The Melon team will be pressing launch on Kickstarter.”

An article from Neurogaget.com offers more details about the crowd sourcing effort for the Melon headband, is a wearable device that measures brainwaves and provides feedback.

Cortina ’09 Up for Student Academy Award

The finalists for the 2013 Student Academy Awards competition were recently announced and among the 47 films selected was “Bottled Up,” by Rafael Cortina (Occidental College). According to a press release from the  Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Student Academy Awards, “winners will be brought to Los Angeles for a week of industry activities and social events that will culminate in the awards ceremony on Saturday, June 8, at 7:30 p.m. in the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills.”

Meyer ’03 Launches YouTube Networks

Mickey Meyer ’03 recently wrote in to say that he has recently launched two YouTube Networks. One is called the Video Podcast Network—with Adam Carolla, Norm Macdonald, Jeff Ross, and more—and the other is called JASH with Michael Cera, Tim & Eric, Sarah Silverman, and Reggie Watts. Meyer notes that he’s also executive producing YouTube’s first ever live comedy show with Vince Vaughn, Craig Robinson, Seth Rogen, Sarah Silverman, The Hangover guys, Lonely Island, Epic Rap Battles, and a bunch more. As of May 19th, you can find that here.

Hession ’99 Wins Peabody, Fellowship

Jim Hession ’99 was the co-editor of the film, Marina Abramovic: The Artist is Present, which recently won a 2012 Peabody Award. Mr. Hession also recently won the Karen Schmeer 2013 Film Editing Fellowship. He will be honored at the annual Independent Film Festival in Boston, April 24-30.
