Fallon ’12 Named Tournament MVP

Samantha Fallon ’12, a defender on UMass Boston’s Women’s ice hockey team, was named MVP of the women’s 7th annual Codfish Bowl Tournament.

The former athletic director of Boston State College (now UMass Boston) James Sullivan and former hockey coach Ed Barry began the Codfish Bowl Tournament in 1965 as an annual showcase of Men’s Division III hockey teams from New England.

The 2-0 victory was the first tournament championship win in the 10-year history of the UMass Boston Women’s ice hockey program.

Highlights from the game, including Ms. Fallon’s first period goal, can be seen in this UMass Boston Athletics video.

McLaughlin ’12 Earns Highest Boy Scout Honor

During his induction as an Eagle Scout in a recent ceremony at the Log Cabin in Easthampton, Walter McLaughlin recalled the hot summer days, the sound of Taps, and the loyal friends that are the hallmarks of Boy Scout life.

A member of Troop 171 out of Hampden, MA, McLaughlin was sponsored by Hampden Engineering President John M. Flynn.

“We’ve all taken something different from being in scouting, but I myself have taken three things,” McLaughlin said after the ceremony. “The friends I’ve made, because scouts are trustworthy and loyal, the best qualities of a friend; summer camp, the hot days and Camp Moses and I always loved the sound of Taps before going to sleep; and the respect you gain as an Eagle Scout.”
