Spring Athletic Awards Presented

The spring season athletic awards assembly was held on Monday May 30, 2011. The Athletic Department presented the Blanket Award for participation followed by the George Denman Award and the Alumnae Award, which are presented to a senior boy and girl. In addition the award winners for individual sports were announced.

DSC 0002blanket2011The Blanket Award is given in recognition of those students who have participated on a team in every season they have been in the upper school at Williston. The following students were presented Blanket Awards at the awards assembly.

The George Denman Award and the Alumnae Award are presented to a senior boy and girl for general excellence in athletics, with emphasis on good sportsmanship and helpful spirit.

DSC 0025stermanThe Denman Bowl was awarded to Isaac Sterman. Sterman, who will attend Fordham University, distinguished himself during his three years as an athlete at Williston. During the fall he was one of the top water polo goalies in New England. In the winter he leaves Williston having broken all of the school’s diving records a number of times. Sterman was the swimming & diving team’s MVP and earned All New England honors during both his junior and senior year. He has also earned an All American nomination. During the spring he was one of the top pitchers in the Western New England Prep Baseball League. He earned All League recognition the past two years and this year was named Pitcher of the Year in the Cleary Division.

This year there were two recipients of the The Alumnae Award. Abby Hatch, who will attend Colby College, was a three sport captain during her senior year. In the fall, she had an exceptional career in the girls’ soccer program earning four varsity letters while also being named the MVP and gaining all league recognition her senior year.  During the winter, she demonstrated her exceptional athleticism by picking up squash as a sophomore earning three describe the imagevarsity letters, finishing her career this year as the #2 player for Williston.   In the spring, Hatch was a team captain and Davis Award winner for the very successful varsity girls’ lacrosse team. In her four years the team compiled a record of 44-2.

The second recipient, Meghann Treacy, who will attend the University of Maine also had an outstanding career at Williston spanning four years. She earned 12 varsity letters, captaining all three of her teams. In the fall, she was an outstanding midfielder on the field hockey team. In the winter, was arguably the best goalie in the history of our girls’ program. The last two seasons she helped lead the team to our best seasons ever as the team won a combined 35 games. During her junior year she was named the top goaltender in NEPSAC Division One Girls Ice Hockey. During the spring as a goalie, she anchored one of the top defenses in the country for the girls’ lacrosse team.
