Courtney Aquadro ’11 (HWS ’15) has been named as one of Campus Compact’s 2015 Newman Civic Fellows. According to Hobart and William Smith Colleges, this is “a prestigious national honor awarded to student leaders who have worked to find solutions for challenges facing their communities…
The Newman Civic Fellows Award program is open for students at member schools of Campus Compact. Awards are bestowed to students who have the motivation and ability to make contributions to their society by demonstrating the social and civic leadership values of Dr. Frank Newman, a founder of Campus Compact.”
A University of Maine junior goaltender who has twice been named goaltender of the month by the Hockey East Association, has now received an even bigger honor. Meghann Treacy ’11 was named to the Hockey East First Team at the Hockey East Awards banquet last week. She is just the third Maine to earn a spot on the Hockey East First Team, according to a press release by the school.
The University of Maine press release further stated, ” Treacy finished 9-18-2 this season with a 2.41 goals against average and a .930 save percentage. She recorded three shutouts. Treacy’s .930 save percent set the school record for best save percentage in a single season and currently ranks 13th in the nation. The previous mark was .926 set in 2002-03 by Dawn Froats and tied in 2005-06 by Rachel Gettings. She finished 8-10-1 in Hockey East play with a 2.60 goals against average and a .929 save percentage.
Treacy earned Hockey East Goaltender of the Month honors in both October and November. In October, Treacy made 41 saves in Maine’s 4-2 win over sixth-ranked Boston University. In November, Maine registered at least a point in four of her five starts and she allowed more than two goals only once.”
This event was hosted by Steve Holcomb ’65 and his wife Joan at their beautiful home on Orchid Island in Vero Beach and included about 20 alumni and friends. After a long career with JP Morgan, living overseas in places like Hong Kong, Australia and Africa (over 120 countries in his life time), Steve is now retired, and enjoying time between Vero Beach, Lake Winnipesaukee, and New York City.
It was a bit of a mini-50th Reunion for the boys of 1965 with Doug Watson, Peter Thompson, and George Volanakis. George, was president and CEO of Corgi Classic, and drove in from Hilton Head Island for the event. Peter was a one-year ESU student from New England, and held several top positions with companies like PepsiCo. Peter is now retired and chairman of the Vero Beach Museum of Art. He attended the event with his wife Patricia. Doug Watson is a retired attorney from Keene, NH. Doug told me a funny story about how he and Peter were neighbors for years and only in the last two years did they realize their Williston Academy connection.

The Coconut Grove/Miami event was hosted by Dan Prigmore ’61 and Marcia Hayes at their beautiful penthouse apartment in Coconut Grove (with a rooftop view of Miami). Dan is a former trustee, and retired real estate investment manager and counselor, who now enjoys his time with Marcia exploring the US and the world by boat and RV.
John Konheim ’61 and Anne Ekstrom were two of the first to arrive. John is retired from his insurance company, who now focuses on his art of line drawing. Anne is a graduate of Smith College, and they liked to joke that they both graduated in 1961, only Anne graduated college while John was graduating high school.
Kevin Hoben ’65, a trustee since 1998, also joined us, and helped to lead the group in singing the school alma mater. Kevin is president and CEO of Omega Flex, inc.

The American School Foundation (ASF)
I had a nice long meeting with Ricca McGowan, the eighth grade counselor and counseling coordinator. Ricca has been at the school for four years. ASF is widely considered the top school in all of Mexico City with over 3,000 kids in Grades K-12. Williston’s strong athletic, arts, and academic program and location make this a good opportunity to collaborate on a study abroad program.
After my meeting with Ricca, I met with Ellie Molyneux ’04, who is teaching fourth grade at ASF. This is Ellie’s third year here. Prior to that, she taught at Indian Mountain.
Ellie is the daughter of Penny Dods Molyneux ’74 and one of my former soccer players. Ellie was as fast as could be and had a bulldog attitude, which I just loved. She would go charging down the field, limbs flying in all directions, bouncing off players…and the ground…with no fear at all. I used to call her “Gumby” for some of the positions she would end up in.
