Athletes of the Week – Sept. 24th

Natalia Ovando ‘15

Sophomore Natalia Ovando made an impressive showing against Kingswood-Oxford on Saturday. In the team’s 6-1 win, Natalia scored four goals and added an assist. Natalia has also showed versatility by playing high-pressure defense in a close match with Worcester Academy the previous weekend.

 

Will Consavage ‘13

Post-grad Will Consavage had an outstanding game against Westminster on Saturday as the Wildcats rolled to a 65-32 victory. Will’s solid blocking helped the team rush for 485 yards averaging over 11 yards a carry, “Will is a hardnosed, dedicated, and unselfish teammate who gives a great effort every day” states Coach Conroy.

 

 

Hannah Lewis ‘13

Senior runner Hannah Lewis has made a big splash so far this year for the girls cross country team. Placing first overall in her first two races, Hannah has moved to 7th place on the Williston honor roll with a personal best time of 20:52. Hannah also placed first for Williston and third overall this past Saturday against NMH.

Pierre DeLiso ‘13

Pierre DeLiso, a senior defender on the boys’ varsity soccer team is a true competitor on the pitch. In addition to contributing a goal on a penalty kick in Wednesday’s match up against Cushing, Pierre has also anchored the team’s defense, helping the Wildcats earn shutout victories in their first two games against Canterbury and Cushing.

Good morning, everyone.

In my role as the Director of Athletics here at Williston, I wanted to take just a moment this morning to speak to you briefly about a topic that is very, very important to me and to our entire community. Those of you who know me know well know that I am incredibly proud of my association with Williston—a place that my family and I have called home for the past 13 years. We are all so fortunate to be a part of this wonderful school community.

Varsity Lacrosse Coach Jen Fulcher and her Top-Ranked Wildcats

The “Fulcher Impact”
Over the past six seasons, under the humor and guidance of Coach Jen Fulcher, the Williston Northampton girl’s varsity lacrosse team have  maintained a 65-5-1 record, gone undefeated during both the 2008 and 2009 seasons, and rose, according to LaxPower, from #42 to as high as the #2 girl’s prep team in New England.

Prioritize, Analyze, Attack: 3 Girls Varsity Lacrosse Players Receive Honors

At the end of the spring 2012 season, three members of the Williston Northampton girls varsity lacrosse team—Bridget Instrum ’12 of Granby, MA; Katie Cavanaugh ’12 of South Hadley, MA; and Karly Simpson ’13 of South Hadley, MA—were honored by US Lacrosse.

The title ‘All-American’ is a designation used to honor high-school lacrosse players, both on and off the field, by US Lacrosse, a national sports organization.  US Lacrosse annually awards the title of All-American or Academic All-American to a group of athletes who have been nominated by their coaches.

Spring Athletic Awards Announced

The spring season athletic awards assembly was held on Monday, May 28, 2012. The Athletic Department presented the Blanket Award for participation—followed by the George Denman Award and the Alumnae Award, which are presented to a senior boy and girl. In addition, the award winners for individual sports were announced.

The Blanket Award is given in recognition of those students who have participated on a team in every season they have been in the upper school at Williston. The following students were presented Blanket Awards at the awards assembly.

Athletes of the Week – May 14th

Jack Shumway ‘13

A co-captain of the boys’ varsity lacrosse team, Jack led the team in points with 30 goals and 19 assists. Highlighted by a 5 goal 2 assist to help lead the team over Loomis Chaffee, Jack has been a key component to the team’s offensive productivity and has been a positive leader both on and off the field.

 

Karly Simpson ‘13

Karly has played critical role on the girls’ varsity lacrosse team this year. Coming up big in recent wins against Deerfield, Pomfret and KO Karly’s play has been outstanding. At the Central New England Tournament last Saturday, Karly was named tournament MVP with 10 goals in 3 games to help Williston earn the championship.

 
Matt Cavanaugh ‘14

Matt pitched an outstanding game against Easthampton last Saturday for the jv baseball team. Matt struck out 15 and allowed only one hit in the game. Matt has been a solid team contributor all season with a positive attitude and superb work ethic.

Holleran, Rowe and Thomas Win NE Championships

Three Williston athletes emerged as New England Champions at the NEPSAC Division II Championships held this past Saturday at Governor’s Academy in Byfield, MA.

Senior Daniel Rowe won the 100 meter dash in a photo finish with a time of 11.20 sec. Rowe also finished second in the 200 meter dash in 22.70 sec., which ties the school record set in 2005 by Sidney Baptista ’05.

Senior Joey Holleran finished first in the javelin with a toss of 157′ 2″ to claim a New England title.

In the girls’ meet, freshman Gabby Thomas successfully defended her New England title in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.43 sec. Thomas also won the long jump with a leap of 17′ 7.25″, which is also a new school record. The previous record, set in 2007, was held by Annie Huyler ’08.

Athletes of the Week – May 7th

Caitlin Berube ‘13

Caitlin has been playing outstanding golf this season. She was Williston’s medalist in the team’s recent victories over Choate, and Westover shooting a 42 on the nine hole course. Caitlin has played an instrumental part in helping the team to a 9-1-1 record thus far.

 

 

James Porricelli ‘12

Senior, James Porricelli has played consistent tennis over the course of the season. He always displays a positive attitude and a competitive spirit. Playing in the #6 spot on the ladder, James has been the team’s lone winner in recent tough matches against tough Avon and Westminster opponents.

 

Abby Walker ‘14

Abby has been outstanding in goal for the girls JV lacrosse team this spring. In recent games with strong NMH and Choate opponents Abby made many key saves to help the team earn ties in both games. Abby’s leadership on and off the field has allowed her to maintain a positive attitude and a poised presence in net.

Athletes of the Week – Apr. 16th

Kerri is off to a great start to the season for the varsity softball team. Playing the catcher position this year her defensive play has been outstanding and a large factor in the team’s success. She also leads the team in batting average (.600) and runs scored.

 

Watt Iamsuri ‘12
In matches against Millbrook and Gunnery, Watt hung tough to win both of his singles matches in third set tiebreakers. Over the course of these two matches, Watt played five tiebreakers and came away with 3 wins. During every match and practice, Watt displays impeccable sportsmanship and is always positive as he helps lead his team by example.

Jenny Hall ‘12
In JV Softball’s opening game against Berkshire, Jenny was outstanding on the mound pitching a complete game and recording 8 strikeouts along the way. In addition, she went 5 for 5 from the plate, including a double and a grand slam home run. Jenny’s hard work and leadership have set a positive and competitive tone for the team.

Swimmers & Divers Excel at Championships

DSC 0166spruckTwo Wildcat competitors earned first place finishes at the Division II New England Swimming and Diving Champions held at Westminster School on Saturday. Andrew Spruck ’12 was the champion in the Boys 1-Meter Diving competition with a score of 285.15, while Natalie Aquadro ’17 won the Girls 200 Freestyle with a time of 2:03.45 and finished 4th in the 100 Breaststroke. Other top eight finishers for Williston include Samantha Fry – 6th in the 100 Breaststroke, Tory Durocher – 8th in 1-Meter Diving, Michael Tanner – 2nd in 1-Meter Diving, Calvin Frye – 5th in 500 Freestyle and Matt Freire – 100 Butterfly.
