Sam Geschickter ’16 Commits to Bentley University

Hard work and sacrifice allowed this competitor to reach his life-long dream of playing college basketball

sam-geschickter_22497515694_o (2)Sam Geschickter ’16 has always loved to shoot hoops.  At six years old, he would play in his driveway for hours, then race into his kitchen and scream, “1,000 shots!”

“He liked working on something until he got it just right,” said his mother, Michelle Sommer, during a recent event to celebrate Mr. Geschickter. “He has always been a super-hard worker.”

That hard work paid off on Monday, November 16, when Mr. Geschickter signed a national letter of intent to play with the Bentley University Falcons next year.

Mr. Geschickter’s work-ethic and passion for basketball has been a key to his success since he was a kid.   As soon as he was able, “he used to wake up at 5:00 a.m. and get himself to the YMCA to work out. Then he would come home, shower, and go to school,” Mrs. Sommer said.

Morgan Fisher ’16 Signs With University of Connecticut

A few years ago, Morgan Fisher told her father that she had two goals: to play for the University of Connecticut and to be part of the U.S.A. Hockey team.

On Friday evening, as Ms. Fisher signed a national letter of intent to play with the UConn Huskies and finally accomplished that dream, family, friends, and coaches wiped away tears. The absence of her father, who taught her to skate and play, was strongly felt.

“It seems just like yesterday she was looking at this school. It just really flew by,” said her mother, Lisa Fisher. “I know her dad is looking down on her now and is so proud of her.”

Ms. Fisher recalled how her father encouraged her interest in hockey by taking her to early sessions at local rinks. In a recent interview about her training, Ms. Fisher explained that those “stick times” were moments to “have fun and be me.”

Girls Soccer and Field Hockey Headed to NEPSAC Tournaments

palumboTwo Williston Northampton teams have qualified for post-season play, which begins on Wednesday.

Varsity field hockey (11-3-2) is seeded fourth in Class B and will host fifth-seeded Hopkins School. The game will be played at Galbraith Field at 2:15 p.m.

Field Hockey is carrying a six-game winning streak into the playoffs, and finished the regular season as the Class B Western New England Prep School Field Hockey Association (WNEPSFHA) Champions.  Positive momentum, and home field advantage, should serve them well for their opening-round game.

Some of the most memorable games this season include a 3-2 comeback win against Deerfield in overtime, a 3-1 win against Loomis Chaffee, and hard-fought 1-1 tie against Class A tournament #1 seed Hotchkiss.  Our Wildcats have a good deal of big-game experience, and this should serve the girls well as they begin their playoff campaign.

Coach Garrity is excited for the playoffs, “These girls have worked hard all fall and it’s great to see their efforts really paying off in the last weeks of the season.  I can’t wait to see what this team can do in the tournament.  With such a terrific group of senior leaders, anything is possible!”

Girls varwysockisity soccer (10-3-2) is seeded fifth and will head to face fourth-seeded Pingree School this Wednesday. Kick off is at 2:00 p.m.

The girls should be congratulated on a great regular season, during which they won the Class B Womens Western New England Prep School Soccer Association (WWNEPSSA) Championship.   Some of the most memorable games this season include the Friday night 3-0 win against Wilbraham & Monson under the lights, and a pair of 1-0 wins over powerhouses Westminster and Loomis Chaffee.  With three wins in their last four games, the girls are looking to carry their own momentum into the playoffs.

A positive and enthusiastic team spirit, fostered by coaches Jen Fulcher and Monique Conroy, has been an important factor in the team’s success this season, and the girls will have to harness that enthusiasm throughout the playoffs in order to overcome their opponents.

Williston wishes both teams the best of luck as they compete for silverware this week. For further information on all NEPSAC Tournaments go to the link below.
