Boston Social Networking Event in Alibi Bar and Lounge

This was a nice little event at Boston’s Liberty Hotel on October 6. Originally the jail house for Boston, it was converted into a hotel with three bars/lounges in 2007. They tried to keep the jail house feeling with bars on the windows and much of the original floorplan. A very cool setting, which several alumni commented on.

We had access to the outdoor patio and the weather was nice enough that most people (there were almost 60 registered) opted to be outside. The alumni ranged from the majority in the 2000s to Peter Holleran, who was representing the Class of 1959.

The event began with an intro to 175th Anniversary events. Then representatives from EverTrue gave a talk about the app and circulated to answer questions. All the participants received a 175th pint glass.

Ezra Barnehama ’03 is expecting a new baby in December, but is still hoping to attend the Boston Gala. Ezra offered the use of his office space in the new WeWorks building, an incubator for new businesses, for an event. They just opened a satellite office in the new WeWorks building. Ezra says that each floor is outfitted with beer taps and that they could arrange for catering to come in for appetizers.

Two of my former soccer players were there: Brittany Amanti ’04 and Emily D’Amour Pardo ‘00. Brittany was a goalie and defensive player. She is now teaching special ed middle school students in the Boston area and loving it. Brittany keeps in touch with a multitude of girlfriends from Williston and even has a group on her phone called “Willy Girls”. Emily, another of my goalies, retold the story of how I alluded to her vertically-challenged jumping ability as a goalie. She was such a hard worker and earned MIP.

Lisa Apthorp Doyle ’81 held down the fort for the 80s classes. Lisa’s daughter Audrey is a PG at Williston. Lisa and I spoke about our class’s 35th Reunion.

Sidney Baptista has gotten into running marathons and has one this weekend. He is also recently engaged.

One of my former advisees, Alexandra Neilson ‘08 taught last year at Ethel Walker with Brock Dunn (Dean of Students) and Kelly Opdenaker Babbidge ’97 (Asst Director of Admissions). She loved her experience but decided to go back to grad school at BC to get her Masters in education.

Alex Teece ’04 is at Harvard getting his Masters in Education while working on the plans for a charter school in Hawaii. He is bummed that he can’t make it to the 175th Celebration at Reunion but he has a wedding to attend.

John ’92 and Sarah ’93 Swierzewski knew each other from their days at Williston, but reconnected a few years back when Sarah, who was living in Boston, was back in Western Mass visiting her family. John was just inducted into the Hall of Fame as a member of the 1992 Golf Team. Both raved about their experience at Reunion last year.
